Great win - Hontama is a very decent opponent.

She faces Anastasiia Sobolieva in the final round...she beat Harriet in the first round, but I'd hazard that Fran is a different prospect. And playing the WR230 for a place in a GS is not a bad prospect at all.

On a non-Brit note, I've got my fingers crossed for Zhang Shuai who has been slowly rebuilding her singles career after that horrendous losing streak. Playing Waltert in Q2 right now.

I think that of all the British women she is the one I would back to win from losing the first set. Hope it did not take too much out of here for the FQR.

Like others if there's any British woman I would back to come back from one down, in a closely matched contest, it's Fran. So I'm beaming now ..

But anxious to know when her next round is, and hoping it's not today, after a 3-setter

somewhat British interest even if she doesn't represent the UK, Joanne Garland is through to the final qualifying round too! I think this is her very first grand slam - good on her.

Really difficult to assess Sobolieva's form/potential. She's had a few retirements this year and no standout results. However she beat Belgraver yesterday who had been in decent form. But a great opportunity for Fran if her body holds up.
