Oh Jodie panicked at *5-4 there to go down *15-40. An ace and an error from Anisimova to get back to deuce. Slightly shakey volley but it's enough for set point. Big ace down the T.
Jodie has a break point at 2-2* in the second but snuffed out with great serving. But it's left Jodie a bit deflated and the 8th seed now we'll in control.
6-4 *2-5

If Eastbourne is loss making (which whenever I go is packed to the rafters), how on earth to the other 250's make a profit (the ones where there is about 3 people there during the week). Tickets are not cheap either..
Prize money for Eastbourne is well over 1 million, being a joint tournament.
Ticket sales will probably cover most of that, but then you have all the costs of putting up stands, hotel and expenses for players and officials etc. This is where you need a good sponsor.
The LTA had to cough up the loss - the LTA lost £4million on their grass courts tournaments last year
Yup well put. Although I wonder if it's Wimbledon that covers the loss as they underwrite many grass court events, not just in the UK. But maybe that means the Wimbledon profits that go to the LTA are reduced.
Doesn't really matter. The UK grass court circuit - now over 4 rather than 3 weeks - has to survive. And the LTA need to look for additional commercial opportunities. I wonder what the arrangement is with Queen's in terms of length of agreement. And have no idea how all the WTA 500 sanctions are negotiated / moved around.
Surbiton is a lovely event but can't step up to tour level. And Birmingham was never going to be taken off the calendar and remains a rare event above the M25. And media are going to promote WTA Queen's more than WTA anywhere else.
None of which is ideal but let's be grateful that the UK can afford to stage loss running events.
I have just watched the 6 O'clock news on BBC1. There was a long bit on Queens having a women's tournament, an interview from Emma and then we were told that Emma and her good friend Katie had one their doubles match. No mention of Sonay, despite showing footage of her playing while they were telling us that Emma had won her doubles match.
Jodie a break down in the third. Some excellent tennis from her this evening but it's getting away from her. Anisimova is serving huge on the second, very brave!
A lot to like in that performance from Jodie today. Just a few too many moments she tightened up and got in her own way. But some excellent power tennis from Anisimova at times really there was little answer to.
If she'd held at *3-3, maybe, just maybe.
Hopefully Jodie can keep building and get a win at Wimbledon, she's got it in there.
