Week 26 - WTA250 - Eastbourne, Great Britain Grass

Well what a shame. I think both Hannah and Mika can take some positives from today but overall both will be a bit disappointed I should think.
Right now, of our three young hopefuls, Mimi looks by far the most ready and it is, I think telling that she is over a year older than the other two. Obviously it is too early in their careers to really take anything from their results of late but it is striking that around 12 months ago you would probably have put them on a par with Jovic yet in the course of a year her career has really started to take off and she looks a real player. Again Jovic is 17. The next year is looking interesting for the GB youngsters if they can develop as well as Jovic has done.

Interestingly Jovic beat Zarazua in the French Open this year though on a different surface of course.

Right now these defeats will help to show them how much work there is to do to even reach the lower reaches of the top 100. Today did look like very much a case of girls against women.

Yeah Mika is definitely not really there at the moment, that was a poor performance and a winnable match. She created far more opportunities but 90% of them she wasted with bad errors. Frustrating, but keep going, keep working, and let's see what a couple of weeks time brings.

It does reinforce just how scarily impressive the teenagers already competing at the Tour level are.

Yes, you learn more from your defeats than your wins
Hopefully a very good training week can put both girls in better stead.
Onwards and upwards, girls youre still very young with a lot to learn.

Im trying to find young Megan Knights match, but it doesnt seem to be streamed on bet365 or any other links.
Is this because her court is not streamed?

Mika and Hannah should be in Wimbledon qualifying rather than having wildcards into main draw!

Because of her age, I think?

I would say they need the experience so they can appreciate the weaknesses and what to work on. I remember Mimi getting knocked out in Ilkley qualies and Wimbledon but look at her now. Currently chasing the other 17 year olds and moving towards top 300. It takes time to transition and we all need to be patient.

It's an interesting debate I get both sides of it! I feel a bit for Hannah had very little time to get ready Mika is frustrating at the moment I put both in qualies in my predictions but who else gets the WCs? Banks the only option really let's see what happens anyway! If either click and get lucky draws its not like they couldn't get a win... what id say is next Wimbledon you'd hope like Mimi there more on the up biggrin

Boisson and Jovic?

I put both Hannah and Mika in my MD WC predictions. But more I had a feeling the AELTC / LTA were going to go with all 3 of Mimi, Hannah and Mika, rather than being at all convinced that they should have.

It's great that they did allocate all the singles WCs ( both men and women ) - there shouldn't be any left unallocated / just going to the next DE in line.

But there is a good argument to be had that at least these couple of non GB players had very strong cases this year and they might have held off this year re Hannah and Mika.

Mika certainly has the shots to win a lot of matches, she hits the ball hard with a lot of topspin, her volleys are particularly ruthless. She hits a lot of the right shots but not always on the right side of the line. If she keeps doing what she is doing but with improved accuracy she will be very good.

I dont really understand why not. Even the French on social media understand the decision. Pragmatic maybe but they get it. RG would never give WCs to our juniors so why not give Wimbledon WCs to the Brits? if there was reciprocal arrangements then fair enough.
