Week 26 - Wimbledon, Women's Qualifying - Grass

All credit to Ranah for coming and supporting the whole of Marni's match

Not a single GB player I could see on Emily Appleton's court (sorry if I missed someone)

And yet I passed Millie Rajecki walking down Priory Lane towards the courts, with a friend, while the MTB was playing out, looking at the score on her phone

Begs a few questions .....

Minor Jeremy Bates thing. All through the 1st set and up to 6 -4 in the tiebreak for the 2nd set he was standing in the corner above the court by some railings. At 6-4 in the tiebreak he moved to the path running parallel to the court.
I thought it very stupid.

That IS stupid - I saw him up in his eyrie for the most part - but hadn't noticed him moving at 6-4

I noticed because he came and stood by me at MP.

ETA I should have said something, If I'm smart enough to realise that that is a stupid thing to do, then he, as a former Tennis Player should too.

No doubt Mr Bates wanted to be more visibly seen, there supporting a British player at the moment they won - or err not.

When I left the court at the end of Marni's match I saw Ella and Ranah with Abigail Johnson soon joined by Marni and her team. And I think I saw Emilt Arbuthnott rushing to get into the ground to catch the end of Emily's match. It does seem that EMily remains separate from the rest of the GB players.......

PS Indi and I just KNEW you'd be around somewhere !

Emily's mstch is not before 12.30. Well that would have been unlikely anyway since the men play best of 5 in the FQR.

But if the Court 4 men's match runs shorter than say your choice of Oliver T on Court 1or Hamish on Court 2 then you will probably have to bail out early from that match to catch all of Emily or even to claim one of the limited available seats. There are only 2 matches on each court, once folk settle down for Emily's match ( maybe there before the match ) they are not very likely to be leaving

I'm relatively near by for the week, and I've already had a very good 3 days. But there are clearly some folk travelling quite a distance on FQR day. And sorry AELTC, but a great many will want to see Brits, including our one remaing woman, trying to take that final step into the main draw, and you serve up this.

It's a piece of nonsense in my humble opinion.

Unfortunately with 2 matches on each court it's impossible to schedule so we can see all 3.  You can see the next court from the high stand at court 1 if you sit on the right (which I tend to do) but the next court doesn't have much seating. Atleast court 4 has the sliding bank.  It would have been nice to have Emily on court 1 though.

Ah, I was mixing up Courts 4 and 5. Hopefully will be able to fit a wee one on the bank or even me.

The full order of play was announced whilst the last few matches (including Emily's) were still in play. Victoria Mboko has made huge progress this year and may well be considered a star of the future.

That's good going. Google maps says 23 minutes for the walk alone.

Clarence Lane bus stop to my seat on Court 2 after a leisurely stroll.

I did Mortlake station to the ground yesterday in around 25 minutes. Much nicer walk than the long drag up Priory Lane - through Palewell Common and scarecely any traffic once you cross the South Circular.

Good luck today to Emily Appleton. I watched the playback of her R1match yesterday and how emotional she was after winning her match. It would be great for her if she could qualify today.
It just shows how much the prize money means to these players.
If they were the 400th ranked football player in the world they would be multimillionaires.

I've got a nice spot on the sliding bank of doom.

I've got my spot near the bottom. My initial spot was a bit higher up but I slid on down to a nicer spot. Is that Mr Bates with a front row seat?

Sorry to hear about this medical condition, indy, but rather too much information...

After going 0-3 down, Emily has just seen her first break back point at 2-4*...
