Romania were always likely to be too strong, but disappointing that Hollie couldn't get anywhere near Popa this time, after their recent 3 set encounter. The upside is the players should be fresh for a crucial 5th-6th place play-off tomorrow against Hungary, who appear to be the weakest team they could have faced here. The winners of that match take one of the 6 places in the Billie Jean King Cup finals in Santiago, Chile in November

U16 QF

(1) Romania 3 GBR 0

Maia Ilinca Burcescu d. Edie Griffiths 6-7(4) 6-0 6-1
Giulia Safina Popa d. Hollie Smart 6-0 6-2
Pop/Popa d. Britton/Smart 7-5 6-1

5th - 8th place play-off

GBR v Hungary

Edie Griffiths d. Lujsa Beviz 4-6 6-2 6-3
Hollie Smart d. Luca Kalman 7-5 6-1

Dani Britton got a 6-3 6-2 win

Hollie is now playing the talented Austrian girl, Anna Pircher, who is on form, as David mentions above

Hollie lost the first set 4-6, but it's close
