Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - main draw

So pleased for Billy, Oli T and Arthur today especially, huge wins for them all (and Cam too, but that was more expected!)

Medvedev (9) the first men's seed to bow out, in four sets to Benjamin Bonzi (7-6(2) 3-6 7-6(2) 6-2).

And now Tsitsipas (24) has retired at two sets down (3-6 2-6) against another Frenchman, Valentin Royer.

And the pesky Polish doper, Majchrzak, dumped out Matteo Berrettini (32) in five sets.  cry

What a great day of results! Great to see so many of our lower ranked guys pulling off some wins. Huge moment for Arthur, Oli and Billy.

And some massive serving going on - just watching the two French guys against Zverev and Fritz - really engrossing play. Been a great day of tennis, to me.

Yep, (3) Zverev match suspended at 1 set all ( looks as if he saved 3 set points in all to avoid going 2 sets down ) and (5) Fritz suspended at 2 sets all.

Of the the other 14 bottom half seeds, 7 are out including (8) Rune and (9) Medvedev. And of course (2) Alcaraz only won in 5 sets but at least won.

That's a fair amount of carnage.

The GB guys' win ratio 4-3 leads the seeds' win ratio 7-7.

Why is Sinner not deemed a pesky Italian doper?

Tomorrow im looking at Jack and Evo as obvious winners and maybe one of Loffers and JPJ, probably Loffers more likely.

of the guys who won today - Cam has, to me, an evens chance against Tiafoe. Billy has a decent shout against Borges; not sure Arthur v Darderi, and a match of great experience for Oli! Maybe 2, most probably 1 through, to the third round. With JD, hopefully we can get 2 in total to the third round, more would be impressive.

If Ive counted correctly, as of now, there are

13 Americans
12 French
10 Brits
9 Italians
7 Aussies

Left in the draw. With 100 players left in (4 matches didnt finish on day 1), thats over 50 percent of the field from the 4 grand slam nations and, if we add Italy, probably the other historic power house ( and the Italian Open has always been the traditional historic biggest non major event).

It maybe signifies nothing - or maybe it is a case of follow the money in the sport as the grand slam events financially help those nations to prosper.

But it probably means nothing at all apart from being vaguely of interest!

Henry seemed to take the loss hard... and commiserated with a "few" refreshments at the Dog and Fox last night.

Well I thought he had the game to win that match so I understand why biggrin good for him to know that at least he can win them.

He should have been two sets to one up. Was a break up twice in the third and then missed some set points in the tiebreak.

Been a little bit of tough grass court season for him - played extremely well in patches but lost two nailbiters against Duckworth in Eastbourne qualies and now this one, both of which he could easily have won.

Hopefully he didn't exceed the recommended units limit in one day which is 4 ( from eg. 2 pints of lager )

Just back from my annual health check and nurse came out with that one ( who knew? )  whereas I've just been aware of overall weekly recommended limits before, when I said I probably had up to 4 pints on a night when out with friends ( and I'm definitely the light drinker! )

JoMo needs to tidy up his game a bit and he will be able to compete! Needs way more first serves at very least!

The NHS have also produced a recommended level of fun to be had which can be measured by day, week, month or year. Although over a year you are allowed to have some fun, when it is broken down to the day, it is highly recommended to never laugh, never partake in enjoyment with friends or family and to try and avoid smiling once a week at most.

Hey ho
