The draws will be made tomorrow, with or without the two lads (& one lass) who've ensured that there's been Brit interest until the final day of qualifying, but I thought I'd set the ball rolling by sharing this fascinating interview with our very own Adam Jones, who's been a hitting partner at Wimbledon since 2022 - & in great demand, by the sounds of it. While it starts off with stories about the "big names" who've used him in SW19, it finishes with some interesting insights into the drudgery of life on the Futures circuit, including an amusing tale of how he, Ewen Lumsden & Llewelyn Bevan camped on the ninth hole of a golf course in Sintra for two weeks because none of them had any money. That certainly puts things in perspective!
On the subject of the money earned, I must say that Wimbledon is being a bit tight-fisted if £125 a day + a contribution to food & racket-stringing is indeed all it pays Adam & his fellow hitters.
Roll on next Monday!
Thanks for posting that Stircrazy, very interesting. it's shocking that with all the money at the top of the game that hitting partners are only paid £125 a day. hopefully it will lead to something better.
Brutal draws for both our men and women. I'm normally optimistic, but I think there's a decent chance that we won't have anyone in the second week (and maybe only Jack in round 3)
George has a chance against Martinez. He has great grass game.
Norrie 50/50 I would say
Searle has Quinn who struggled to beat Oli Crawford a couple of weeks ago.
Bit more reasonable than the ladies draw at least! Draper a hard route but maybe takes some pressure off?
I doubt it. Rightly or wrongly ( and I think it is now fair enough ) I think the pressure will be on, not least from himself, to reach at least the QF. The good thing is that he appears to handle pressure very well.
