Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - main draw

Do they play on the middle Sunday this year? I know they did last year and manic Monday didnt happen as it used to, but cant remember if that was down to rain or a forever change?

It was introduced in 2022 as a permanent change. So yes.

No manic Monday, no all women's QFs and men's QFs being played on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively ( they scheduie to continue playing the separate halves of the singles draws through Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday ).

Not a British player issue but what a nonsense that Rinky Hijikata's Wimbledon could have ended at 9.30 pm tonight.  Re-starting a match at 2 sets to zero and 5-4 in the third. He should not have been expected to try to return Ben Shelton's 140 mph service in near darkness. The tournament is on schedule. Why start a 3rd set when it is bound to be dark by the time it would end? This happens regularly at Wimbledon and it really should not!

Absolutely ridiculous!!!  Showing as 'just' a 52 minute 3rd set so far and had no doubt got silly when they did call it off with Shelton due to serve for the match at *5-4.

This should never have got anywhere near such a stage. And I agree, just call a halt after set 2.

A fair assessment of Jack's match by the man himself, as reported by Rick Broadbent. It's to be hoped that he learns from his chastening experience yesterday.

If Im right in thinking most other Slams start on a Sunday. I do wonder how long till they add a Sunday start as another day to sell plenty of tickets.

Thanks for this, it looks like he has taken a good reflective look at his game and is going to do his best to make the improvements he's identified.

They have said they have no intention. Think it will be a while if at all, and they want players to have enough prep time.

My pleasure.  Weird, though:  for the second time this week when I've posted a link to something, it was flagged as spam!  Can't remember the last time that happened.  The problem was easily resolved, however, as all I had to do was approve it myself.  smile

Supposedly both players asked to stop at 4-2 or 4-3

They were both wanting to stop

And the refereere refused !

Made them go on .... but then called a halt at *5-4 !!!!

In the 4 points played in daylight today, Shelton served 3 aces and had a service winner. He goes through to R3 to play LL Fucsovics, who beat Monfils 6-4 in the 5th

55 seconds.
The warmup was longer than the play.

Well done Cam for winning the first set. He's obviously not playing his best but he muddles through and takes the tie break. That's a triumph for professionalism.
