Very good from Katie to stay strong in the final set.
It worries me that bar the top 4 GB players, I don't see anyone capable of climbing up to the top 100 in the next couple of years, bar Jodie The experienced players are dropping back and the young pretenders are not ready yet.
I was worried in the 90s that no British player ever again would reach the Top 100.
Yes, I doubt we've had such a strong top 4 since the 80s bar a short a short perod when Bally, Anne, Laura and Heather crossed.
And I'd say we simply haven't had as strong a top 7, if you add in Jodie and still take account of Harriet and Heather. 7 in the top 160.
Yes, anyone coming right through to that level in the next year or two replacing any who drop away ( and surely that's only looking like maybe Heather and possibly Harriet, but folk have discounted her before - tough times but she could come again ) is unlikely. Depth is an issue but I'd far rather have top 200 strength than 200 to 500 strength
And of course, we do have Mimi, Hannah and Mika continuing to progress.

Too early to say. Mimi has climbed 300 places. I dont think you can ask more than that TBH. Mika and Hannah are a year behind and just need the experience at pro level when they are ready. Mimi has talked about how she is still, limited at 17 as to how many matches she can play. That will change when she is 18 in September. Kind of think Mimi might be in a Sonay trajectory but lets see what happens. Of course there will be some who come through as well that still arent on the radar.
What we're really talking about is Heather and Harriet slipping back, but Emma, Katie and Sonay being up there, with Fran and Jodie having the ability to join them. And this allows the youngsters time to develop. Still think pretty good compared with previous eras.

No one 18 months ago saw Sonay as being capable of climbing up to the top-100

And yet here she is
No one saw Jake Fearnley in the top 100 a year ago and look where he is - dont write anyone off

Indeed
Though paulisi was talking about the women
And Sonay was the prefect example for that - just look at the ranking, the predictions, what people were writing
(and there are a few I'd write off for the top-100 )

I agree and realise he was - just using Jake as another example of someone coming from a place where no one was really thinking of them at the top 100 level. Saw Sonay interview earlier with Claire B, came across really well
