Can't believe Fran's opponent really needed a bathroom break after such a short set!

Jodie basically came up against a player who is similar to herself but better at everything. Never in contention and just tried to keep hitting everything harder until she totally blew up. Her mental game is still so weak - any miss cost her 2-3 points because of how she reacted, backchatting with her team, stomping about. Really poor display all round, other than at the net when they had a nice exchange.

A fitting way to close a very poor grass season for her I suppose. Given Caty is only in her second tournament back, I thought the American looked very sharp.

Let's hope the North American hard courts are better for Jodie. She really shouldn't still be stuck outside the top 150.

Elsewhere, Fran throwing everything at her match. It's a good draw and currently making the most of it. Really great tennis.

Do not want to dunk on her too hard but that genuinely dreadful from Jodie. First British wildcard who was below expectations I guess? Good luck fran!

Hmm Fran not quiet doing the business after breaking first game of the second set.

The crowd is weird, they seem more on her opponents side.

 Quite voluble Ukrainian contingent, no?

Fran missed a couple of break points at 2-2* and then broken from *40-15

2-4*

Ukrainian has played herself into contention. Frustrating as Fran had this match by the scruff of the neck 20mins ago.

Bah, Fran broken for 2-4* after getting a dead net cord when in charge of the *40-30 point.

The Ukrainian is sitting so deep, but Fran isn't using any angles or short balls. She's just trying to blast into corners and missing.

1-2*

No. She's tiring now and that long rally will not help

Sadly painful to watch the Ukrainian just has her number now!
