Yes, and Fran was using such a variety of slices, blocked returns, angled winners in set 1 - it's since turned into a standard slogfest, with the Ukrainian slogging harder.

Ukrainian not even going for winners just awaiting the fran errors.

The good news is all 3 girls left have genuine chances of going further - I know a lot think Emma will lose next match, but she certainly has a shout if the brings her game.

Yes, two have rather better looking chances than in R1.
My concern for Emma is less her game, but more Vondrousova's.
I know I shouldn't, but I feel a bit deflated with only 3. Heather just needed a few more first serves at the start of the second to keep her momentum and I think Tauson may have started to unravel, and both Harriet and Fran led by a set and a(n unconsolidated) break. Fran in particular it was so frustrating watching her stop doing what got her into a winning position and revert to trading blows from the back, which she was always going to lose.
Oh well, our Top Tier girls delivered against tricky opposition, and big chances here to keep going.

I agree somewhat disappointing because they all dipped after good first sets.
Hmmmmmmmmmm
Lets not forget that our players have had weeks and weeks of extra practice on the fast grass courts when most of the foreigners were on clay.
This is what I expected but Im not getting carried away with how well 7 girls did for all loosing, not coming close or fading away in the 3rd set.

Don't think that's true in this set of draws Deucebag. Fran, Harriet and Heathers opponents all played 2/3 grass court warm ups. As did Fernandez and Krueger.
So not the case they were playing girls coming straight in off clay (as some players do and was the case with some of the guys I think).
At most, the British girls had an extra 3-4 days on the grass compared to the others, and Hannah probably was later onto the grass than Fernandez because she was in Roland Garros until the very end for the juniors. But certainly not "weeks and weeks".
I dont buy the argument that the additional few days on grass prior to the swing starting really makes any difference by the time you arrive at Wimbledon a month later at this level to be honest. It maybe helps that first two weeks, when people are having their first match of the year on the stuff, when you've had a couple under your belt, but the top players acclimatise fine after a couple of hits.
There's also a theory that took much grass play is actually bad for your timing - I believe Djokovic is one of a number of current and past top player who ascribe to this and do a lot of their Wimbledon prep on hard courts, especially now the courts have been getting progressively firmer and slower over the last 15 years. Not 100% sure I agree with that, I suspect grass time is just less important when you are so much better than most of the draw, but what would I know.
All the girls the Brits played were well bedded in on the grass (albeit with mixed success!), other than McNally who only played one event because she's coming back from injury and selectively using her PR.
In my list of reasons to be a little disappointed, 'they had a couple of days more on the grass at the NTC at the start of June ' would not come near the top. I've got plenty of other things I can find to moan about first haha

I just feel like we should have higher expectations seeing as this is our tournament as British tennis has started to step in the right direction over the past few years. This tournament is the best chance that we have of getting players through towards the second week of a grand slam And its not been a great showing from our girls ranked outside the top 100.
Im sorry but I just feel like the girls should have shown a bit more fight and grit.
