I see that Dayana Yastremska, Coco Gauff's R1 conqueror, has been beaten in R3 by Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. I see that the 22 yo is WR 62 but I must admit her name has passed me by until now.

We must be on the same wavelength biggrin

10 minutes ago I saw the result and had exactly the same reaction: Jessica? Jessica who? Who the flip are you?

Jessica has beaten Sakkari and Navarro this year, so capable of big wins. But Heather beat her in Eastbourne qualifying smile

She beat Vondrousova when she was defending champion last year.

She was underrated as she beat defending champion Vondrousova in the 1st round of Wimbledon last year. British fans may have forgotten that Jessica beat Katie Boulter in the 2nd round of the 2024 US Open. She  is building up quite a good record in the recent Grand Slams.

Emma has been unlucky with her draws in the 3 Grand Slams this year. She has had 2 losses to Swiatek and one to Sabalenka. Nobody else has beaten Emma in 2025 Grand Slams.

And look how open it has become. We will have our 9th different champion in 9 years after the 2 remaining ex-winners departed today.

Bearing that in mind and all the early seeds carnage, particularly top seeds, there could still actually  be a very strong / interesting conclusion.

Q1 has Sabalenka, Q2 has Anisimova ( and Kartal ! ), Q3 has Andreeva, and Q4 has Swiatek.

But will other names reach the SFs.
