Because he effectively closed that window on himself and it doesn't look likely to open again in the foreseeable future, I fear most likely never though I'd so like to be wrong on that.

Agreed - just cant see it happening. It feels like it was almost a magic spark that was lit 24 months ago, and somehow the candle has gone out and the spark has disappeared
The latest PDF of the draw isn't helpful in this regard. https://www.protennislive.com/posting/2025/2797/mds.pdf There is a single withdrawal but five alternates / lucky losers. Dan is not in qualies for Cinncy, and he would not be permitted to withdraw without a valid reason. I'm guessing he picked up an injury and is being understandably cautious in the run up to USO qualies.
