Giles got a LL spot though and has a not bad draw versus Martin Damm in the opening main draw round.

Billy has a decent draw - could go deep into this if he plays anything like...

Such a pity Billy didn't go back to Asia after Miami and almost certainly have been then able to say that he made it into the top 100 rather than do the noble (?) thing of playing in clay tournaments prior to the French Open.

Because he effectively closed that window on himself and it doesn't look likely to open again in the foreseeable future, I fear most likely never though I'd so like to be wrong on that.

Agreed - just cant see it happening. It feels like it was almost a magic spark that was lit 24 months ago, and somehow the candle has gone out and the spark has disappeared

The latest PDF of the draw isn't helpful in this regard.  https://www.protennislive.com/posting/2025/2797/mds.pdf       There is a single withdrawal but five alternates / lucky losers.  Dan is not in  qualies for Cinncy, and he would not be permitted to withdraw without a valid reason.  I'm guessing he picked up an injury and is being understandably cautious in the run up to USO qualies.
