I make it that Katie will now have 116 ranking points - same as Ella. Any more wins here would make a real difference. I didn't think she'd make the British top 10 this year, but she is beginning to close in on that now.

Ella is dropping 8 from Roehampton, so Katie will overtake her and will be GB13 - so will be getting points in the predictions competition. She could yet catch Emily A, needing to make up around another 60 points.
Katie's next opponent lost to Emily A in 3 sets in Canada in March, so I think Katie starts as favourite. I was really worried for her, that the doubles match would have left her too tired to beat Okamura, but fair play to her, she came through and hopefully another win today.

Good point - where's Ella?
lots of withdrawals and one entry in Greece for the end of August?
Is she injured or just wants a bit of a rest and a summer holiday?
It seems like Katie has now become physically match fit and her game is fairly solid. Yes we had a little scare when she had to play two singles matches in a day and seemed to suffer from stiffness. I'm in the camp of it having been a good idea to line up a doubles match at this tournament. I expect that Katie will have been well aware of Emma Charney's record at USC and had she lost she would have played just the one singles match this week so it served its purpose and by the sound of it she played with a friend too.
So now she needs to raise her level and that will only come from focused improvements in her game and playing matches against better players.
Katie's match will be on in around an hour or somewhat later. The preceding match has just gone to a third set after 2hours 33mins (and showing now as suspended, although it is bright sunshine)
That said, although Katie left the court she didn't take her racket bag and it looks like the umpire is still in place so maybe the rain's not expected to last long

Is it actually raining ? There is a line judge sitting at the far end of court out in the open. There was a suspension in the previous match, and I suspect it was a toilet break for both players.
Katie is also sitting bt the court, but I see the umpire drying some lines now witha towel.
Today's opponent is proving quite stubborn, gets many balls back, and Swan has seemed a bit more tentative than yesterday. Katie played a nice cross court slice in that final game to bring up another set point, that her opponent had to run in to and hit a backhand down low, which went way long. Maybe employ that shot again?
Katie's not playing with as much risk, she's not playing as deep as she has been but every now again she hits penetrating shots .. like she has another gear to go to if need be .. I hope that's the case .. Anyhow what hurried them all off court in the end was thunder .. so maybe a storm is passing nearby and they'll resume shortly
