Wouldnt surprise me - the current field is below. Alcaraz, Zverev, Swiatek, Rybakina and Paolini (who is in Cinci singles and Doubles), Musetti and Errani (Cinci doubles) are all still in Cinci, as well as Sinner, and that event goes through to Monday with this due to start Tuesday. Quite possibly any of them could use that as a reason to pull out.
DIRECT ENTRANTS Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti
WILD CARDS Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori

The USTA made a choice to release initial entries before the deadline as part of promotion and hype, but this constant changing of pairs is exhausting, and chips away at any credibility the event still had.
Emma Navarro would rather pick up some valuable singles points in Monterrey after a poor summer, dumping world No. 1 Sinner who she'd not properly met before they were paired together. And who may or may not re-partner.
And is Sinner allowed to pick someone who hadn't previously entered? Or instead break up another pair, who will then no longer be eligible for a wild card.
If Sinner doesn't re-partner, there's still a direct entry to come, but they haven't indicated who's next on the direct entry list as at the rankings deadline. And what happens if the next direct entry is already in as a wild card?
As others have indicated, there are likely to be a number of additional pull-outs, mostly from Cincinnatti participants, so the merry-go-round has a few rotations to go.
And if an all-star pairing wins under this truncated format, what does it mean anyway? Personally I'd love to see Shelton/Townsend or Vavassori/Errani win, but won't think any less of 'doubles' players if they don't.
And the tennis will be nothing like the Wimbledon mixed doubles final.
Surely the winners of this will not be considered Grand Slam champions?!
I guess the question is as to who determines who a grand slam champion is? I guess its the tournament itself as anointed by the ITF, and if the US Open says they are their mixed doubles champions, then grand slam champs they will be.
I had virtually no interest in this event, and this is doing nothing to change that. What a mess (in my humble opinion!).
Yes.
I realise that the authorities believe (maybe rightly) that most tennis watchers only care about the top players, and this will be a nice way to whet the appetite for the singles (and normal doubles) that is about to kick off. And, if so, I wish them luck, and if everyone likes it, overall, then fine.
But, as far as I'm concerned, the qualis are where it's at, that's a really important event, it matters, I don't need anything else to get me ready for the main draw
And the only reason I'd watch mixed doubles normally is because (a) someone I particularly like is playing (normally not a top-20 style player) or (b) there's very little singles left in the last few days so, you're in the swing of the grand slam, it's all getting down to crunch time, the main event isn't going to start for two hours, so you watch a little of the mixed doubles to keep you going, and why not, it's fun.....
I will be watching/following qualis in the week before the singles, not some mixed doubles exhibition thingy (but I won't miss the mixed doubles from the normal format, I don't really care that it's gone)
Anyone else getting the feeling that half of these pairs arent going to play and this might end up a fiasco anyway?
If they were playing full matches then I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of withdrawals. But as they are playing short sets and only playing Tuesday and Wednesday I suspect some of them will use it instead of practice sessions to get used to the conditions and surface.
The powers that be might recognise this as a slam event, but real tennis fans will probably treat it as an exhibition even if the winners are entered in the record books.
Any of the 8 direct acceptances drop out and the non injured party gets to try and repair with a player high enough ranked to get them in.
If that happens, all done. If not, the next on end acceptance list ( as shown in wiki) ie those originally entered, get bumped up? They just havent told us what order that list is in or who is still on it.
If that happened to be a pair with a wildcard, the current wild card list would reduce by one pair. When the entries close - and they havent said when that is - theyll just add in as many wildcards as they need to make it 8 wildcards in total.
It may not be that - which presumably is how ordinary tournies work? - but they just havent communicated. And losing 4 original pairs in the first 16 announced looks a little poor, particularly if, as we all expect, more drop out in due course?
