The following teams entered the tournament but did not enter into the draw:
Italy Jasmine Paolini / Italy Lorenzo Musetti
Czech Republic Karolína Muchová / Andrey Rublev
United Kingdom Katie Boulter / Australia Alex de Minaur
Japan Naomi Osaka / Australia Nick Kyrgios
United States Iva Jovic / United States Jenson Brooksby
Canada Gabriela Dabrowski / Canada Félix Auger-Aliassime
Netherlands Demi Schuurs / Netherlands Tallon Griekspoor
Czech Republic Kateina Siniaková / El Salvador Marcelo Arévalo
United States Desirae Krawczyk / United States Evan King
Chinese Taipei Hsieh Su-wei / Poland Jan Zieliski

Quite possibly this was the original acceptance list order for those in as alternate entries, hence the Italians have now got in. So Muchova and Rublev might be next, if available, then Katie and AdM (not available presumably?) etc I can see quite a few of these in the atp or WTA events next week so suspect that list is quite depleted now.

Poor comms for the fans and all a bit muddled

Surely the winners of this will not be considered Grand Slam champions?!

I guess the question is as to who determines who a grand slam champion is? I guess its the tournament itself as anointed by the ITF, and if the US Open says they are their mixed doubles champions, then grand slam champs they will be.

Well I guess they will be US Open champions but in what should not be looked upon as a US Open Grand Slam event if that can be?

US Open champions with an asterisk?

Rather like the Moscow Olympics?

The US Open website is ahead of us and says!

US Open Mixed Doubles Championship presented by Vital Proteins
Get ready for the biggest event of its kind! The revamped US Open Mixed Doubles Championship presented by Vital Proteins is an official Grand Slam tournament where the sport's top male and female tennis players team up to compete on an equal playing field. With a $1 million prize on the line, you'll see your favorite stars battle it out on August 19th and 20th during Week 1 of the US Open.

Yep, an official grand slam tournament. We can put our own asterisk?

That said - Australian open womens events in the 1970s had 32 draws, with winners outside the top 200 (I have Christine OnNeill in mind?) and have no asterisk in the annals of time - or Spencer Gore winning the old one match challenge on the 1880s etc !

Solely up to the US Open. If it says it is the official mixed doubles championship, with trophy and honour role, then it is. The ITF recognises Grand Slam tournaments as official championships of the ITF (for a sanction fee) but has no involvement in their running.

And as others have said, there are all sorts of asterisks next to historical records.

I don't think they can call it Open when they're only accepting certain players whilst the ones who would normally compete are excluded

Alcaraz and Sinner in Mondays Cinci final; Id say Emmas pairing with Carlos is under threat.

We dont know the rules or timings of Emma choosing to repair, if Carlos pulls out?

Maybe this thread should have ended up in the mens section after all, where SC started it!

Would Katie be allowed by the WTA to drop out of Cleveland?! Same week event as US mixed? Or does US mixed have this week attached to it and is really week 35 (minus 1?). Maybe Cam will play with Emma? After all, theyre rumoured by one journo to be dating, arent they ?biggrin

I thought Cams face was a picture when they asked him about that in a recent press conference! I doubt Louise was not pleased given they have been together since 2019 and live together in Monaco.

That's a good point Brendan. It's not open at all.  I have an even bigger issue with the fast four / match tiebreak format.

Emma's only in as a wild card because of Carlos. It's only direct entries that can repair.

bad choice of words - I realise that, i really meant find a new partner and still play. repair/ replacement partner under revised wildcard.
