Venus was wonderful for a set and a half. If that's her last match she certainly went down competitive.

Tuesday order of play

Katie - first match on Grandstand
Sonay - first match on Court 12
Fran - second match on Court 6 - play doesn't start until 1pm local time

If Katie finally wants to make the second week of a slam- her draw couldnt be much better/nicer!

(Shame shes not in the best of form and I do actually rate Kostyuk and find her inconsistency wild)

Yeah if Katie wasn't in such horrible form I'd be excited as I think Kostyuk is very beatable (as Harriet has shown before) but it's all just such a struggle. Did a good job to level back at *4-4 but a bad game to go down 4-5*

Sonay also broken, broke back, broken again 3-5*

And then went 40-0 up on Martas serve and missed three returns in a row so back to deuce

Katie races to 40-0* and blows all three in about 15 seconds. Absolutely shocking stuff. The serves weren't even particularly good and she can't find the court on any of them, including framing her third into the stand.

Loses 6-4 6-4. It does feel like she's not really got her head in the game anymore. Wimbledon kind of broke her, although she wasn't playing particularly well before then anyway.
