Cam coming on strong towards the end of the first set - saved breakpoint at 4-3 then had three breakpoints at 4-4 saved by bullets, but has unsettled Korda, and won the last 8 points to take the first set 7-5

See that Dan's conqueror in qualifying, Lloyd Harris, made it through qualifying and now also won in 1st round of MD.

I managed to get there yesterday. I arrived at Cam's match 5 mins after it started, and it was at full capacity, with huge queues, so I didn't manage to see very much. I did make Jack's match - as reported, the serve and shot speed was slower than usual, and there were only glimpses of the early year Jack. Definitely looked rusty, but it was a good match to tune up. He'll certainly need to improve.

One word on the Open - I love it and I love New York, but it's getting out of hand. My ground ticket was $200, and this weekend they'll be $400 (just for the outside courts). The US Open signature ****tail is now $23. It's extortionate, exclusive, and I hope it gets called out widely. Not a good look for the game.

Im assuming the bandage on Jacks left arm yesterday in his practice with Carlos is surely precautionary?

Beeb article commenting on how Jack has worked on/built up his fitness & physique in recent months with a little help from a certain Matt Little.

Beeb report on Jack's match, together with comment on the injury to his serving arm.

I feel like this needs to be taken to another thread, but not sure which one )mods feel free to move). I was wondering which is the most affordable slam. I've only been to Wimbledon, but would like to get to another slam someday..

I was unable to watch any of Jack's match but comments on MTF suggest his arm may have been troubling him in the 4th set. His serve speed was down for example.   I do feel concerned that he won't be showing the promise, that I for one was anticipating at this USO.

Billy's in!  biggrin  However,...

L128:  (LL) Billy Harris WR 151 vs (25) Félix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) WR 27 (CH = 6 in November 2022)

Interesting comments from Ken Skupski on R5 Live Sports Extra as quoted in the Beeb's live text commentary on the match - especially the second paragraph:

Billy Harris has got to find that balance of being aggressive without overhitting. It's really early stages for Billy in his career to be playing at this level and he feels like he might have to overplay at times. He's just got to really try and get a few games under his belt, feel a bit more comfortable and you never know where his game might take him.

He stagnated a bit at the start of the year. He changed racquets and I didn't think it worked out well for him, but he's gone back to his original racquet in the last few months and he's found a bit of form again.

Pity he dropped the first set, after retrieving an early break, by 4-6.  hmm
