Yeah the decision to split the entries basically made no difference. The 8 in site entries were pretty much the players who were first out of the advance entries.

That's good to know. How did the men compare Paul?

Not Brits but watching Venus and Leylah in their doubles. I had forgotten how tall Venus actually is and how petite Leylah is. Anyway seems to be working, close first set (7-6) and 3-0 up in the second. Plenty of spectators for a doubles match.

And Leylah successfully holds serve to take the second 6-3. Venus dancing around the court and Leilas beaming!

So happy for Venus, I've always liked the way she's carried herself and been so generous.

Yes, I watched the second set, and loved it smile

And, yes, at the risk of being a bit 'off', it honestly looked like a mum and her 10 year-old daughter - Venus is so tall, and has filled out a fair bit, and Leylah is so petite - it made it really sweet

And they put out the 6th seeds with ease

Actually, with Venus' rocket serves, and then Leylah's crafy lefty serves, the other pair had real difficulty, it was good to watch

Can't help it but I also like the fact that Venus wasn't playing with an American

Best of luck to them

One Alt pair in the draw so far - Cavaille-Reimers / Sierra CR161 (87+74), lost 0 & 0 to Mertens/Kudermetova. Emily was definitely in NY yesterday - could be the next in as their CR is also 161

Katie and Sonay take the first set 6-1

Drop a tight second set 5-7. Had a break point at 4-4* and 5-5* but very little in it. Opponents aren't exactly a top tier doubles squad so would have hoped they'd be good enough to take this one.

But lose the second 5-7. Into a decider.

Miss another break point.

*2-3

Sonay's level has dropped through the floor. But Katie plays two excellent games and they have the break again *4-3

Miss a match point at 5-3*

Katie broken to 30. Sonay is really not having a good set.

5-5*
