From Tereza on Insta

"Our US trip was shambles. But this is tennis, we struggled a lot behind the scenes, but brought it all today for our first match at the US Open. Sometimes your good tennis isn't enough.
So proud of us and our whole team for overcoming tough times together. This team is back with identity and can't wait for our time is Asia "

Cool to hear- in which case good luck. Whats the behind the scenes problems referred to?

Not British tennis, but so glad that Venus and Leylah have gotten through to the third round.

If Katie and Sonay win they will then play Venus and Leylah.

The doubles players are not showing themselves in a good light that this has been possible.

Good match. They got plenty of deuces but no break points in the third and lose it 6-4. Shame not to get the opportunity to play Venus with a big crowd.

They were playing pretty well and starting to look like a proper doubles pair - putting the ball in the right places, volleys into spaces or angles etc. Shame it had to end with a couple of errors, but it certainly gives another option for the BJK Cup/

 Really?

Venus and Leylah have far more claim to being a kosher pair in the last 16, than someone like Willis and Dzr., for instance (who I love being there too, just to be clear, but really.....smile)

Venus is a doubles Grand slam winner - FOURTEEN times - she knows doubles biggrin

Yes but in 2025 she can hardly move. Leylah is everywhere.

Yes - they make an excellent team

I actually think the serves are SO chalk and cheese that it truly confused their opponents

Venus is sending down flat bombs from 7 ft up

And Leylah is landing lefty spinners, from 5ft nothing

(I exaggerate biggrin)

But you can see it really bamboozling their opponents

And Venus' size at the net makes it difficult for the others to pass her, so they hit more at Leylah than they would do otherwise - who, as you say, is all over the court like a rash smile

Yes I agree they have confused their opponents. The doubles players seem to expect certain patterns of play and

when the opposition do not conform they cannot cope.

I thought Katie and Sonay acquitted themselves very well. I'd like to see them play more together and then as a pair in the BJK Cup perhaps.
