Week 38 - 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Sjenzhen, China

Who do we play now?
The competition is a bit of a farce, with top players withdrawing and clashing with a WTA 500

We play USA in the SF. In their QF vs Kazakhstan they had Pegula and Navarro in singles and Pegula & Townsend played the deciding doubles ( Pegula lost her singles 6-4 6-1 to Rybakina ).

Yes, I thought it far from ideal that the week before two weeks of WTA 1000s has the BJK Cup Finals and also a WTA 500. Tbf, as I alluded to earlier, the missing from here are generally just not playing this week for whatever reasons, Emma looking just about the only player in Seoul who would have strengthened a BJK Cup team. But it shouldn't be an either/or.

I think it's very unlikely we'll beat USA but another semi final is good stuff and keeps the ranking up.

I know shes developed since. But I saw Navarro at Ilkley in the final against Bjorklund in 23. At least then, Bjorklund attacked her and won by being aggressive.

I know Navarro has risen to 18 in the world from like 70 or 80 then, but feel like Sonay has to go for this and not be passive.

PS what happened to Bjorklund, I know she and Shapo got engaged (married?) but did she retire? V talented player, very error prone though

They literally just got married, there's been some pictures up on social media, with them and their dog in their wedding outfits.

Sonay playing very well. Navarro desperately trying to keep the ball away from Sonay's forehand.

6-3 2-2*

I'm a little surprised to see the lack of comments so far on Sonay's match !

Leading 6-3 2-2* - with quite a few breaks of serve.
