Emma's first serves were a bit erratic to start with but once she got going was a very effective weapon and her return of 2nd serves was very destructive.
solid in the end but there were still many rallies where, the longer they went, the more they seemed likely not to go Emma's way
But ..onwards .. she's looking gradually stronger. She needs to work hard before next year if she's to improve beyond 25-30
I'd be fairly optimistic re that. On a generally upward form curve, nothing more to come off from last year and live #26 for points won this year.
Would be good though to get a big rankings win, with Pegula now to be faced here in the L32.
And in general, while draws can often open up, it would probably be generally pretty useful going forward if she can get herself asap into the top 24 to avoid being bracketed to play a top 8 player in Slam and W1000 L32s, with that being very possibly such as Sabalenka or Swiatek, or in this case Pegula.

I was thinking more about improving her level, rather than her ranking. Yes good to improve her ranking for seeding purposes but I would like to see her improve her play so she beats those in the 11-20 bracket as often as not, and has the solidity to give 1-10 a good game.
Yes, I felt her serve has been getting better of late, her depth is better too and closer to sidelines. For '26 She now needs power+depth+width to stay on top of the points she is ahead on
Oh, and for someone to teach her to volley and make the right decision at the net (please!)

Tbf Emma has been fairly unlucky with draws this year and has only met 3 players ranked 11-20 all year, while meeting 10 players ranked in the top 10 with 7 of these being in the top 5 ( her one top 10 win being vs Navarro WR 10 in Miami ).
FWIW from that very small 11-20 sample ( all 3 coincidentally WR 17 at the time ) she won 2 comfortably and lost the other one more closely.
vs Muchova - Dubai 1000 in February - lost 6-7(6) 4-6, vs Anisimova - Miami 1000 in March - won 6-1 6-3, vs Kasatkina - Strasbourg 500 in May - won 6-1 6-3
Since Strasbourg, all 6 of her top 20 meetings have actually been against top 10 players.
