cry I assume that also means she loses the ranking point she got for qualifying?

On the WTA list of points awards, for a W35 48 players in R1, it gives 1 point for qualifying and one point for R1. For a 32 player event it gives 1 point for qualifying 4 points for R2. So I suspect she keeps the 1 point.

I tried googling Kim to find out more, but she has little presence on the internet. One betting site suggested she served and volleyed. I couldn't find any college references (she's 21) so not sure where she's been the last few years. He played one match in September 2024, and nothing else until two weeks ago (two QR1 losses) - and then this week !

She's been in France, playing money tournaments and team tennis

Kim was runner-up in the Critérium this summer, which is the French national championships for 2ieme serie players (i.e. players who aren't in the top block, the higher WTA equivalent players)

She's ranked -15 which is very much a 2ieme serie ranking

I posted the actual draw for the event above which showed that she lost to Stevic who is WR 1100 or so

Kim also won a big money tournamen in January

There's quite a lot on Facebook and Insta about her (mainly on her club's pages) and lots of French press articles about the Critérium, but all saying pretty much the same thing

Thanks CD, very interesting. I gave up on learning French over 50 years ago, so it will take me a little while to look at everything ! (But I do understand the club tables wink )
