It could have gone either way against Cazaux, so feels like a bonus shot to me
Agreed. Tien will be top 20 in the near future, Cam has struggled since the US Open. Not sure this slow Shanghai surface helps him.
Actually, why have the slowed it down- its been an historically quick surface and all the players are complaining they have an extra abrasive surface this year which makes it v slow.
I would have said slow courts did suit Cam rather well just by his game. And on those slow Indian Wells courts he won the titie in 2021 and has twice subsequently been in quarter finals there.
Tien is betting favourite but not by that big a margin. 8/11 vs 11/10.
tbf, I had forgotten about his success on the IW slower courts. Let's see how it goes - just think Tien is a talent and on a good run with good confidence at the moment, and could be a handful. My worry re slow courts is whether they would give Cam the opportunity to penetrate through, but your point is fair!
Cam's been making quite a few unforced errors - forehands into the net which is costing him. Otherwise they're playing at a similar level. However, Tien has just raised his game in the 2nd set and broken Cam too. I need to go but I can't see Cam turning this unless he raises his game
edit to correct Tien's name

never really felt like Cam would take this. 4 weeks of season left, we move indoors now. Stockholm next for Cam.
Cam is going hard for the remainder of the season, playing Stockholm, Vienna, Paris and Metz over the next/final 4 weeks. Hope he gets something out of it to take into the close season.
Do you want someone to die? Rune questions the punishing conditions in Shanghai whereas in Wuhan players report similar almost unplayable heat and humidity. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/articles/c1jz4xe3lpro
Arevalo and Pavic have progressed to the semis in Shanghai and, with it, both move ahead of Julian, pushing Julian back into 4th spot in the rankings. Lloyd is still live #1, but both Arevalo and Pavic could overtake him with the title this week, as well as going to top of the Race in the process.

Bah
I don't think LTR have Lloyd and Julian's live ranking points right but not by enough to effect any of that ( I don't think they should be dropping 90 points in respect of Shanghai last year when they have spare 90s to come in, leaving them unchanged at 7890 and 7325 points respectively ).
