The starting late is almost certainly due to the heat and humidity. Darwin is totally tropical - you have 2 seasons officially, a wet one (from November to April) and a dry one (from April to October) - we are just getting to the end of the dry one and then the wet one starts, but by now, the humidity is rising every day. i nearly posted about it - wrote it out and then deleted it, because I was worried about Katie playing in such conditions.
People think of the Aussie climate as warm and dry, but the tropical north is completely different to the rest of the country.
Hopefully she is alright and it is just the humidity taking its toll.

Yes, spent a week in Cairns years ago and I was struck then by the Tropical Jungle we went to. It's one thing rafting or scuba diving and a completely different one playing tennis in those conditions

Darwin seems a bit odd, humidity drops at 3pm so that would explain the time they start however the late afternoon may show a lower air temperature reading but all the solar gains from the hottest part of the day will be radiating off surfaces so it will feel hotter. It's a shame they couldn't split the day in 2 and have an early morning session and an evening session but that would wreak havoc on their scheduling.
