Week 42 - ITF W35 Birmingham, Great Britain - Indoor hard

Great that you're there Paulisi!

What do you think of Mika's tennis seeing her live? From her results, it looks like she's come on leaps and bounds since the grass.

A win today would rocket her up the rankings to about 450.

Mika now seemingly comfortable at 6-4, 3-0

Easy win. Kuzmova had more power, but made so many errors.
Mika didn't need to get out of first gear.

I'll let you know next week after Wrexham, if she has a more competitive match.

I've seen her at juniors, but big powerful serve, moves well and punishes the short ball

 Really interesting

Sort of the the other way round from what everyone would expect

Great job, Mika

Great result

Curious but pleasing she was seemingly able to cruise through without lifting her game

Looking forward to Wrexham!

Is Mika semi professional now or is she still at school? Just wondering if she is following Mimis route??

I think the grass was the anomaly though

She'd barely played, she'd been very focused on exams, and she was very rusty

I think on hard, her favourite, with the practice behind her and her focus now very much back on the tennis, she's back to the 'norm'

The important thing for her, obviously, was her transfer down to Roehampton a month or so ago

Which, touch wood, seems to have gone very successfully in the short term

I've heard that there's some disagreements at the NTC as to how her training should take shape but that's not that unusual and time will tell (although you can never re-wind and do it the other way so there's never a definitive answer)

Super

As Sheddie said, will take Mika up to around WR 450 when these points add on Monday week ( will she also be adding Wrexham points then? )

FWIW her 115 points projects her to GB #16 and #2 U17 in the world ( after Julieta Pareja - live ranked 359 on 165 points ). No points then due to drop until next February.

Impressed with her fight and comebacks ( not needed today ). I recall when our 3 young Wimbledon MD WCs were interviewed back then, she indicated that she thought one thing that distinguished her was her fight.
