Lucie missed a whole year from the end of May 2024, returning in a W15 in Serbia with no ranking. So she's done well to climb up to WR314 again in under five months.

Thanks TA . That explains it. She seemed to be going so well to get to 196 at 18. It can be a cruel sport.

That was another dominant display against a very good player.
Mika is so accurate with her shots and i expect her to win the tournament.

We have a lot of players who with a good run could make Aus open qualifying.

Mika won fairly easily 2 & 2. with 8 aces and 0 DFs. Her opponent served 0 aces and 6 DFs.

I think we have a good group of players making progress in the 300s and 400s ( a few new to the 400s ) but tbh I'd say Aus Open Q 2026 will be rather too soon for practically all of them.

If we could yet get a couple from outside the current GB top 7 ( Heather and Harriet at #6 & #7 ) that to my mind would actually be very good. Say Mimi and Katie Swan.

Lily be very close to top 250 if she wins today

Marni at 305 live ranking

Mimi at 322 live ranking and may break top 300 this week

Katie S inside top 350

Mika at 383 live ranking and  will be close to 300 if she wins the tournament

Most still have a few tournaments left to climb the rankings. I see Mika is playing Glasgow and then is entered into a 50k in Funchal a couple of weeks later.

Sorry, I hadn't fully taken on board Lily's position, and she has no further points to come off this year.

Still think 2 from outside the current GB top 7 would be good ( taking out the very ), revising to say 2 from Lily, Mimi and Katie.

So, with Heather out of contention I'd actually take a total of 4 Brits in Aus Open Q - Jodie, Harriet, plus 2.

Mika is way down the alt list due to her entry ranking being high 500.  With her ranking rise, would she get an onsite alt into qualifying based on her vastly improved ranking.

Mimi has quite a busy schedule over the net few weeks.

Whatever happens, it's going to be carnage when it comes to Wimbledon handing out WCs. I don't think there's much chance of them not being used by GB players.

Yes, down the line we could be really talking, but to me that is beyond Aus Open 2026.

Get prepared for French Open dirt, girls. And then golly gosh Wimbledon indeed could be rather interesting.

Control yourself, man. And shame on the LTA for bestowing such a prestigious tournament on them.

Technically Wrexham is a  city since 2022.

Not sure about whether it's technical or not but Yes, Wrexham won the competition to grant civil status to a new town as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. In the award the UK Government site mentions the famous Wrexham Lager and the Unesco World Heritage Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Incidentally the latter cannot be seen from Wrexham.

And I would personally be dubious on Wrexham Lager being world famous both as a statement and in terms of qualifying them for city status!! If that was a qualifier, I would be proposing Masham (Theakstons and Black Sheep) for City status right away!!

Masham gets my vote then (Black Sheep might be the best beer I've ever had I think, well on draught anyway) .. I'd never heard of Wrexham Lager

Phew. I wasn't impressed by what I saw of Lily vs Ruby Cooling in R1 ( while Ruby did very well ) and that looks to have been a real struggle. Though she did dispatch the top seed comfortably in R2  confuse

I do think Mimi is favourite to beat Lily in the SF.

Lily ( & Freya ) are also scheduled to play Mimi ( & Ella ) tomorrow in the second doubles SF.

Still no idea why this is tomorrow and the final on Sunday. Though I guess gives spectators 2 finals on Sunday, if maybe have to be a rest period between them

Yes - it is to get spectators through the door and create extra revenue

I thought Lily made really hard work of that match and I'm expecting a Mimi v Mika final
