It's worth a go. The Australian Open has quite a generous package even for alternates from memory so the financial outlays aren't as horrendous as the might initially appear. Plus there's plenty of options for breaking up the trip back in the weeks ahead with tournaments in Bahrain, Phillipines, India etc...

Last year Katie, Emma, Sonay, and Jodie ( protected ranking ) were 4 direct entrants. Then Harriet ( who must have been close to being another direct entrant ) came through as a LL.

Tbf I suspect that may have been the first time in a very long time that we had 4 direct entrants given how rare it has been for us to have 4 in the top 100.

Katie is seeded 7th in the quals draw. Maybe the last withdrawal was too late for her to be upgraded to the main draw or the q draw is wrong.
