Potential GB women in Aus Open qualifying

Anyone got a link to the entry list that shows the alternates ? I can find the direct entries but not the alts.

I think it always helps if people can post links when they announce entry lists - it just helps everyone!

The WTA site is saying alternates list is to be announced still; all sites point back to the AO site itself which has this womens list on it

https://www.tennis.com.au/content/dam/tennisaustralia/documents/elite-player/AO26-Women%27s-Singles-Main-Draw-Entry-List.pdf

and the mens

https://www.tennis.com.au/content/dam/tennisaustralia/documents/elite-player/AO26-Men%27s-Singles-Main-Draw-Entry-List.pdf

ie both without alts.

I am presuming those who mention alts are guessing and havent seen an official list yet? But, as you say, if they have then a link would be really cool! For mens as well if available?

Thinking about Katie B, maybe she will focus on a few lower level WTA tournaments to play herself back into fitness and miss AO qualifying? Lets be honest, that tends to be Emmas default position. Does she have 70 points dropping for a round 1 win kast year. I think she may regroup ready for 2026.

Katie has been done by the SR's - 3 of them - she'll be 3rd alternate, so needs 3 withdrawals to make the main draw. It is very frustrating for her, I think. One or two withdrawals are normal, but three is likely to be too much.

I don't share others thoughts that playing in qualifying will be good for her (or that she should skip the tournament). For me, if she had qualified, then she could have played warm up events without the pressure of having to win to make the Aussie Open - a much nicer situation.

The 3 SR's make it a bit harder for Mimi to make qualifying too - fingers crossed she gets the win in Limoges tomorrow, which I am sure will be enough for her. Big match tomorrow for her.

Ons WR76 isn't on the entry list.

Another one to watch out for is Daria Saville WR200 is also pregnant so won't be in qualifying or get a WC.

Saville is ranked around 200, so no help to Katie B and Jabeur isn't on the list, so as far as I know, with the cut off at a ranking of 103 and Katie B at a ranking of 106, she does still need 3 players to withdraw to make the main draw.

The SR players are at 40 Karolina Pliskova, 71 Yafan Wang and at 100 Sawangkaew (I'm not going to try typing her first name).

Anyway I think Katie is very unlucky that there are 3 SR players and it does look like she will have to qualify, I think.

there were 6 women (and 6 men) with an SR ranking in AO 2025, so 3 is comparatively light compared to that. I think most slams these days 3 would be below average - Wimbledon had 6 women as well in the entry list with an SR.

Not sure Katie is unlucky, to be honest, it isnt abnormal and she chose not to chase the ranking (and rightly so, a career isnt about one slam main draw).

Yes, without wishing any longer term absences for any other player, we can only hope for the withdrawals Katie needs before qualifying is due to start.

If she is fit, and ready to go, I too would most certainly prefer that she is going at tour events, such as Hobart in the qualifying week ( assuming she can get in to at least qualifying there ), rather than qualifying. Surely at this stage better that and a guaranteed Aus Open qualifying place. Good to see that Auckland WC for the previous week.

I mentioned Daria because she won't be playing and won't get a WC, thus freeing a spot for another Aussie and one less in front of Mimi.

The Australian qualifying entry lists have now been posted on the Aussie Open website.

Although they haven't put any alternates, the last one on the list is Wei of China ranked 233, which means that Mimi at 234 must be the first alternate. That has to be great news for Mimi - someone is bound to withdraw from the main draw or from qualifying, so it would be a real shock if she doesn't qualify to compete here. I had a gut feeling that she was probably right on the cut off and she was.

I have calculated that at 247 Lily is 13th on the Alternate list (as Aiava at 239 has a wildcard), so probably just too far out to make it, I'd have thought.

Katie B is 3rd on the list, confirming that she needs 3 withdrawals from the main entry list to make the main draw, Harriet is 65th on the qualifying list.

Anyway good news for Mimi I think - Merry Christmas everyone and hopefully a happy New Year for British tennis fans.

Lets hope the Australian open give their last wildcard to Maddison Inglis or Olivia Gadecki so that Mimi gets into qualifying.

Emerson Jones is the first Aussie recipient of a wildcard into the AO 2026 Main draw it was announced at the weekend. Jones won the Australian Pro Tour Wildcard Points Race that has been taking place over the last month or so. Also earning an AO Main draw wildcard is Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan for winning the AO Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-off finals in Chengdu on Saturday. Dyas currently has a live WTA ranking of #282 with 242 points. Previously, Elizabeth Mandlik was announced as US wildcard recipient for AO 2026. This leaves five singles wildcards still to be announced for the womens Main draw, one of which France's wildcard recipient for AO 2026, and the remaining 4 being discretionary awards by the Aussie tennis association.

(source: ausopen.com/articles/news/wildcard-weekend-jones-duckworth-diyas-bu-set-ao-2026-main-draw)

Emerson Jones has had a good run these last 2 months, culminating in taking the Playford W75 title last week. In that time she has played 23 matches, winning 19 and losing 4 (one was a retirement). The losses were to 2 Aussies (Olivia Gadaecki, and Talia Gibson), Zarazua (Mexico), and our very own Katie Swan in the Brisbane W50 (current live ranking #274 with 253 points).

I reckon Talia Gibson will receive one of those discretionary wildcards, she won the Sydney W75 tournament 2weeks ago beating Jones in the final. I'm not convinced that the remaining 3 discretionary wildcards will all go to Aussie's.

Taylah Preston [20yr old Aussie, currently live ranked #197] has shone brightly in the last 3 months over the Australian tennis swing, and I think she could well be awarded one of them. Katie Swan has beaten her twice in that time period, one of those being the semi-final on Brisbane W35 arena court, which was a really high-class contest.

Will probably go to Venus, but Mimi should be ok regardless, hopefully Katie will still make it to the MD.
