On play off votes - Im not entirely sure i like them to be honest. I dont personally find them very interesting or satisfying. Problem is the other option is to leave a tie and Im not sure i like that either; last year we had 6 ties through the season - a lot. But maybe that overall is a better solution, just run with a tie and not have the tie break? I cant think of any other options available, to be honest.
Its also the reason I dont want player of the season to end in a 2 player final. It just feels a lot less lively and makes the process too long.
Id be interested in any views - Im currently on the fence on what is best. I wont change it for this season, we have a plan and we stick with it, but Im thinking 2026.
Jon if people on the initial vote were able to vote for a first choice ( 10 points per vote ) and a second choice ( 5 points per vote ) in a ranked voting choice poll there would for sure be less ties ? Just a thought.I know its slightly more complicated in terms of setting up the poll .

Hi Danny
Thanks for the idea - the poll tool itself is a very limited tool. It only allows for the organiser to put up a list and then for the voter to select one option, which is how I run it. It would be fabulous if something more sophisticated allowed me to do something like you suggest!
The only way to do that, therefore, would be to do away with the tool altogether and make it a narrative vote - ie post your vote in the thread and I count them up as we go.
There are three problems with that in my mind (not trying to be negative!):
- one is that people have previously said they like the visual aspect of the vote position being easy to see and read, I also do like that (although it has its faults - it only allows a percentage to be shown, I would like to see absolute numbers myself, but it is what it is).
- two - it is a lot easier for people to come on click and go. I think if we asked people to post their vote by commenting on it, we would see a lot less votes being made. We see that already in that people often don't comment at all, most voters don't - and I think some of those would drop away. I think authenticity of the vote is in large part linked to number of voters. I already worry that numbers have dropped off over the past year. We are running 13% below last year, so maybe 6 votes fewer per poll on average and whilst that doesnt seem like many, I dont feel we can afford many more. Getting , say, 20 votes in a PoM vote by asking people to vote narratively would really hit its validity, IMO!
- three - a lot more work for me to go through and add up votes, keep a log and post updates. It is a lot of work already running this (self created, I have to admit!) but this would take a lot more.
If the voting tool was advanced enough to do what you suggest, something like that would be a really big step forwards - it may be that using an external tool and linking to it is possible, I havent investigated that - but again, having it readily visible in the thread is something I think people want.
I hope that didnt sound negative - it is great to have ideas and it is a good one, we are just limited in what we can do!!
Quite a few people do not say from whom they voted so the narrative solution seems to me to be torpedoed below the waterline. I think there is merit in just putting both/all the tied players into the end of season event. I endorse your decision to stick with the current scheme until the year changes.

Hi mdewey - thanks for that and the support; yeah, re ties going forwards, the top 2 plus ties with the top 2 do go through, in fact. If we had players tied for 2nd spot, they would go through - I don't break the ties for 2nd. Let's see re next year, I may just decide to go back to having ties for top spot and ending the misery there!!
This is the full list of qualifiers so far this year and how they got into PoS (the number in brackets goes up to 24 and denotes the qualifiers, with 28 being the target amount post wild cards. Some people in fact may have different routes. The year end number ones are shown as if they have qualified - I suppose they are tentative, although I can't see any of them changing, bar one (junior boys, which may swap from Oli B to Ben G-W or Mark C). You'll see PoM and PoM RU are all listed as qualified. June ended in a tie, even after the Play off vote.
