Well done, Zach - didn't watch the third set but thought he had all the momentum after that TB and wasn't convinced by NB's style of play (no idea about any injury, certainly didn't seem to be any in the second set)
QF: (8) Dominik Palan (CZE) WR 556 (CH = 280 in October 2023) vs Zach Stephens WR 1802 QF: (5) Vadym Ursu (UKR) WR 446 (CH = 299 in September last year) vs (2) Jay Clarke WR 200
And Zach wins 7-5, 6-3. What a pleasure it has been to watch this run. He came into it with just a couple of ranking points and now he can totally replan his schedule for the start of next year. (Possibly the first week that hasn't cost him money too!) Great to see
I see Zach is down for qualies for an M15 in Egypt next week (and the week after in fact). Would a semi here at this challenger get him anything in terms of an SE to get into the main draw in next weeks Egypt M15?

This is an interesting point! From memory, the basis of the Special Exemption (SE) is that the player must have entered qualies in next week's tournament and that the tournament must be at the same level as the one that the player is playing. I do not recall any reference to a player in a higher level tournament who might benefit from an SE into a lower level tournament. But I acknowledge that this is a detail that even the nerdiest of us tennis nerds could overlook! I'm sure the tournament organisers in Egypt will be very happy to have ZZach in the draw, they will figure out how to make it happen.
Unrelated, but BobinSpain has not posted for a very long time. Bob, if you are reading this I hope you are well.

Someone will know re the SE status!!
Re Bob - he occasionally pops up with an ad hoc post, but it is certainly few and far between. It seems his passion moved to cricket maybe and tennis has taken a back seat. But he is definitely missed and I hope at some point he makes a return!
