Para Tennis 2026

With Anna playing well yes Anna is much better, as her UTR is lower than it should be and reflects injured and illness affected matches.
If Anna is a little off Eva is dangerous. She is a fighter, is a powerful hitter and has a good backhand.
Anna's disrupted winter training means anything could happen. Anna level has dropped from last summer and is now only about 0.5 UTR points stronger right now.
Anna's shoulder means that she is not serving at full power. So anything could happen and we can only hope things go well on the day.

Big congrats to Anna McBride on winning both the singles and doubles at the Para Tennis in the AO!

And to Oliver Beadle on taking the mens doubles title with Aussie partner, Archie Graham

Sadly Fabrice Higgins was runner up in that doubles as well as in the singles final

Well done, Anna M. That's very impressive given the injuries and disrupted training. May it be only the start of a fabulous year!

And well done to Oliver and Fabrice and the rest of the GB players.

Thanks

Anna played very well and had match points at 6-2 5-2 . Eva was playing very well and suddenly played even better. Anna lost four close games in a row to go 6-5 down on serve. She managed to hold serve in another close game. Anna ran away with the break..

Eva had been training hard for this over many months. They had some people from Roland Garros with them for support. They filmed Ann's other matches and were analysing Ann's games. Both Anna and I saw them reviewing Anna's play on a tablet. I even saw someone film Anna zoomed in close and then attached it to a WhatsApp chat. I could see it was a busy chat, but not what was said. I thought it was creepy at the time, but worked out what was going on when I saw other footage on the tablet.

Anna showed a lot of fight and did a really good job given the setup around Eva and her excellent play. Also, a GB team mate and her mum were loudly cheering Anna's unforced errors and Eva's winners. Nothing for Anna's winners and good play. Anna did well to ignore it. Quality wise it was the best para match ever.

Anna and Kelly played very well in the doubles. Their change of tactics during the match prevented coaching advice to happen, as there is no coaching allowed during matches.

Was this the team mate you mentioned to me elsewhere?

Sounds like Anna did just fine and deserved that title! And remaining world number one !

Yes, it was. I was furious and have complained to the LTA person managing the team.

 Thanks for your support

Congrats to Anna on being January PoM runner up and also qualifying for the Player of the Season vote again for 2026. Great to see her achievements recognised.

I often wonder how many board members follow the para and wheelchair tennis threads and it is clear they are followed, I would say, which is gratifying to understand.

what does the season ahead hold in store in terms of other para tennis events, or will Anna be focusing on other tennis events ? I dont think there is a world games this year, is anything planned around any other slams? I think there are some European games, arent there?

And I hope the rivalries in the British camp get sorted out as well.

Sometimes it is like living in a bad Dallas episode. Don't be surprised if it goes nuclear. It is a sad world.

The European games may get upgraded to a World, like Paris in 2018. The Australian are particularly anxious about this, as they have to plan. The team manager told me on Sunday that there has been no word about upgrading Poland. So I think there will be some urgent communications going on in the background. There was an idea of hosting it in Florida, but I would suspect that having a dystopian nightmare for a leader may have ruined that.

Apart from something that may happen in Nottingham I have heard nothing else.

Anna had already planned year long break started at the end of last term. Anna is off to Soto next week for tennis training and space. She has had a very difficult year and very little training, so hopefully if she is selected for the Poland Games, it will help her on the clay in Poland.

There is nothing for the other slams as of yet.
