How are Alfie and Gordon unseeded in the doubles here when there are both ranked 2?
The seedings came from last weeks rankings when they were both ranked 4, before their win in the 1000 event. So they were outside the seedings- if it had been this weeks rankings they would have been top seeds. Unfortunate timing
Ive not mentioned the boys and girls wheelchair events. The has two 4 player draws. The boys has 2 British players in it, the girls has 1.
Matthew Knoesen is one of the boys and going well so far. He beat 2nd seeded compatriot Lucas John de Gouveia in the opening round robin match. He is currently leading German top seed, Alex Lantermann, by 4-3 with a break in the second round robin.
Interesting to follow Matthew as the event progresses.
Mens singles - Alfie beat Gordon 2 and 3 and plays de la Puente in the semis; the other semi is Oda versus Fernandez, the top 4 seeds through
Quad doubles - Andy Lapthorne and Aussie partner, Heath Davidson, won their semi 10-6 in the MTB, and play top seeded Sasson and Vink in the final
Boys singles - Matthew Knoesen won all three of his group games and tops the table; Im not sure of this leads to a final or not, presumably the top two play in some sort of final? Nonetheless, he was unseeded and has done really well, lets see what the status is later!
Mens doubles - Alfie and Gordon just started their semi versus Oda and Fernandez
The boys doubles final takes place tomorrow - just a two pair draw but a British winner guaranteed as there is a Brit in each of the two pairs; there is also a Brit in the girls wheelchair doubles final.
As an aside, the junior wheelchair events are a first this year for the AO, joining RG and USO. Wimbledon is the only slam to not have junior wheelchair events.
Ah, this a shame. Oda and Fernandez are certainly the best pair alongside Alfie and Gordon right now, whatever the rankings and seedings say. Oda is just the top player, full stop. Hope Alfie can give him a real battle in the final.
