Cheeky opportunity with everyone from 100 to 240 busy elsewhere.

And that was the 'best' draw possible.  guaranteed a seed and she got the lowest one.

And she takes the first set on a tiebreak 7-6(5). Good start.

Really good effort and kept going until the end but couldnt recover an early break in the third set and lost it 3-6.
Final score 7-6, 2-6, 3-6.
i am sure lots to be pleased about.

I think she might have had a Medical Timeout though. I was nodding off at the time. But I had noticed she was having a little bit of discomfort with her left leg in the first set. It didn't seem to be the hamstring issue that was bothering her in November/December .. perhaps it was upper left thigh. I had hoped she could finally start a season without a niggle.

Anyhow, hopefully, it is something she can manage or strengthen. In the first set her movement was not at her best, but some of her strokeplay was outstanding. The wind was upsetting the rhythm of both players and perhaps it had an impact on her movement with the ball moving about.

Like brittak says, a lot to be pleased about smile

Katie is always going to have niggles. As Laura said in UC commentary her back injury is something Katie is going to have to manage for the rest of her career. I wouldn't be at all surprised if her legs are fine and any discomfort She feels in her legs during playing is referred pain from her back.

Yes, this what I've guessed since she started experiencing it back in the autumn, particularly has it seems she has experienced discomfort in different areas of her leg. Whatever it is, I'm hoping she can build up resilience

Katie has exchanged cryptic messages with Taylah Preston about picklejuice, taken by some folks to combat cramping up from dehydration, so maybe this is part of the explanation .. she was previously complaining of heat-related issues whilst in Australia. Perhaps it's a combination of more than one issue. Sounds manageable anyhow.
