Mimi really struggled in the third set. She sprayed her forehand and her serve wasn't dominant.
Second set she played well

Mimi went 5-0 down in the 3rd, pulled back to 5-2 but then lost her service and the match.

Harriet underway. Will be about whether she can defend against Aiava's power and how many mistakes the Aussie makes I think.

*1-2

Honestly I'm not expecting Harriet to win either. No warm up tournament and only just out of a boot does not bode wll.

Made a bit of a mess at the start of the second. Did great from *0-40 to game point but missed it and broken, then wastes 30-0* and broken again

*0-3

Aiava completely in command when she is able to get up to the net. Harriet has a look at 30-0* but snuffed out with four good points.

*2-2 final set.

Broken, breaks back, saves two break points. Getting tense this one.

4-3*

Classic Harriet. Aiava starts struggling and Harriet is 5-3 *40-0

First two wasted with poor second serves. Third Aiava doesn't get a clean hit on a first serve return, it drops short and awkward and Harriet sends it wide. Break point down Harriet plays two of her best points of the match to get another match point. Gets up to a net cord and Aiava blasts long.

Phew.

That is good news. Didnt really expect Mimi to win, not knowing if she was in the draw or not didnt really help her preparation but I think she is playing in Bahrain next week, so onwards and upwards. Harriet in contrast was showing signs of getting back some form at the end of last year and I am so,pleased she has carried that through here. Hoping she can get make the main draw.

I thought that was a pretty solid first match after a layoff. Good to see her overcome the nerves in the last game on a decent sized court packed with Aussie fans, I think Jan Choinski was there supporting which was nice. A bit concerning that the ankle seemed to be bothering her though.
