Weeks 3 & 4 - Grand Slam, Australian Open - Melbourne (outdoor hard)

Sonay didn't really have any weapons to trouble Anna, except consistent play with few errors. In the first Anna was making unforced errors and the set could have gone either way. In the 2nd Anna started going for more shots and making fewer errors, hence the runaway score to 5-0 before Sonay got a look in.

The AO website has very good stats on Katie's match, updated in real time. (Not good for Katie though !). And the AI commentary is pretty good too.

Too many errors from Katie - this match won't last long.

Agreed - was on court. There were several times in the first set when Sonay needed to show a bit more conviction and the outcome might have been slightly different - she could have moved forward and volleyed or smashed but retreated instead.

second set - least said.
Not watching Katie this evening and probably for the best given the score

Ummm. Might be worth turning on the Katie B match. 3-3 second set.

Anyone who is watching (in person or on TV) how are the court speeds looking this year? In past Open's they have been quick courts but some of the results this year make me wonder if they have slowed down?

You can take a one-month subscription only to Discovery+

But it costs about £30

Which, tbh, I think is fine if you take it right at the start, and you know you're going to be quite free

But if it's just for a few matches, an odd one here and there, it doesn't work

Second set was better but was never really threatening. Onwards.

Oh dont really think that is correct given the fact she broke Bencic twice in that second set and had her at 30-40 in that last game. Given Belindas form at present that was a great second set from Katie B. Another month or so back where she should be. Working with Michael seems to be paying off.
