Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - Melbourne, VIC, Australia - Doubles (hard)

All 5 pairs featuring a Brit survived round one intact and with little trouble - good start.

Marcus at the Australian Open

2008: Sent home as a junior - didn't play a match

2009-2024: No activity

2025: Cam pulled out - didn't play a match

2026 - 18 years after first being there finally gets on court and beats the 15th seeds

It's been quite a journey for him

Marcus sure creates some excellent stories smile

So that's doubles wins today for:

Marcus+

Henry+

Julian+ (in mixed)

In theory, at least, a title this AO could take Neal to WR1. In the life rankings, Henry is down to 9 as he and Harri defend their title. Joe has actually got a live jump to 8th; Neal sits in 5th. Marcus is up to 72.

Im sure a lot will change as the event unfolds.

I joined the match for the last few games of the first set. Marcus was playing superbly by then. I left when they were 4-1 up in the second and was in no doubt that they would win.  Looking forward to their next match - should be a spectacular one if its against the KKs.

That should be interesting!  Kubler & Polmans eventually overcame their compatriots, the "Special Ks", in three sets & two hours & 47 minutes (4-6 6-4 7-6(10-4)).

Kubler is a talented player, don't know Polmans much. Kubler of course won the doubles here in 2023 with Rinky Dinky Hijikata so we can safely ignore his world ranking.

Looking at all 5 L32 matches, I would be disappointed if we didn't take 4 of those. Marcus and Jakub would be the bonus but could certainly do it.

Second this - Marcus always a good watch, great match, and match-up with Jakub.

Like JC (see below) - looking forward to the next round smile

But sadly not against the KK's - they lost, but only just.  Both were carrying injuries and  played really well considering.

Marcus's podcast might interest some of you.  I've only listened to  his first Aussie one, but the latest one is since today's match.https://open.spotify.com/show/15NcaA9ScplC60NBPhLCoL

They managed to get it to 30-40 but the Aussie WCs hold their nerves to serve out a straight sets victory against the no.1 seeds.
