Very well done Hannah.

At the bookies:

Jeline is 1.5 x

Hannah 2.5 x

Which seems about right:

They played three times last year

Australian Open junior R3 - Jeline won 4-6 6-3 6-2

US Open juniors SF - Jeline won 6-3 6-2

Winter Junior Finals - Jeline won 6-4 6-2

Hannah lost a huge long second set tie-break

But the match was inifinitely closer than all the other ones from last year (and I watched them all )

She's most definitely moving in the right direction

Hannah lost the second set on a TB(10)
Shame - she served for the second set and (I think - watching Olympics and JPJ too!!) had 2 SPs and served 2 DFs.

From what I saw Hannah was competing very well in the rallies but it looked as if her serve just wasn't really functioning and that was too big a handicap. Probably cost her on the day?  Pity.

Just my view but I thought she was serving pretty well

She could pop the ball into the court for an easy second serve if she wanted but she was obviously trying to do the more aggressive second serve, and a fair number missed, often by a hair's breadth

Which is a good exercise

She's often too passive - on second serve, on everything - so I'm happy to see her trying to impose herself - the result here doesn't really matter

Her return of serve is more of an issue to me, than her serve

Yes, she got into the rally - but there shouldn't have been a rally - Jeline's serves was often just pat-balls - and Hannah, as often, is too far back.

But there was a lot to like there - and it was a real match - unlike those from last year

Good stuff, thanks. You no doubt saw much more than I did, and I agree that her development continues to be much more important than results from matches like these.

I did see her absolutely pulverise one service return. Was that not enjoyable, Hannah?

yes

There were a couple - I enjoyed them too

She 'should' have got to a third set - that second set was hers, really

But, tbh, she 'shouldn't' have won the second set against Océane - or not so easily at the end, that's for sure

So a bit of swings and roundabouts

But, still, the best tournament of her pre-birthday swing, in my opinion, and all of them have been markedly better than some of the matches last year

For the record:-

L16:- Hannah Klugman (GBR) WR590 [JE] def Ocean Dodin (FRA) WR684 [WC] 3-6 7-5 6-2

And just to note, one week later, Océane Dodin beat Tamara Korpatsch, who is ranked WR 106, and beats her 6-2 6-2, no less, in a really classy match biggrin

A wonderful win for Océane, and a wonderful win by Hannah the week before smile

Korpatsch played and took a set of Katie B in her final last week as well.
