Winter Olympics

Congratulations to Matt Weston on becoming the first individual GB male Gold medallist since Robin Cousins, 40 years ago.

(I'm crowning him gold medallist with one run to go as he is so far ahead)

The rest of the team have probably under achieved, with medal hopefuls finishing fourth.

PS how bad is GB wonen's no.4 in the curling...

Yep, no jeopardy in the skeleton

Still, bring it home please, Matt.

Ha, there was 0.39 seconds between first and second before the 4th and final run, and then 0.49 between the top 2 in that final run

But indeed, the right way. Matt wins gold by a relatively huge 0.88 seconds - if less than the time that it actually takes to say "huge"

Crazy sport - Matt produced such strong, stylish (and fast) runs. Well done that man smile

So, Team GB at last picks up a second gold medal, this time for the mixed snowboard cross courtesy of Charlotte Bankes & Huw Nightingale!  ban-woohoo.gif  Finally, after so many heart-breaking near misses, I can bear to look at the medal table!  That said, even with two golds, we're only 14th, but still not bad for a country with no solid winter sports background & at least ahead of Brazil, which won its first ever gold in the men's giant slalom yesterday, AND Canada!  $64,000 question:  can the curlers add to the total?

Well, at last ever!!   biggrin    And more golds than Canada is quite something.

It's the first time ever GB has won 2 golds at the same winter games and our first gold ever on snow, as opposed to ice for such as ice skating, skeleton and curling.

The snow board racing looks rather fun. Maybe too late to take it up.

And just like London buses, you wait days for the next gold & then two come along within hours on the same day:  Matt Weston (his second of the Games) & Tabby Stoecker, take a bow in the mixed team skeleton!  jump.gif  Up to 12th in the medal table!  biggrin

P.S.  Freya Tarbit, who came fourth in the event alongside Marcus Wyatt (yet another near miss!), was the fastest woman in it!

Missed out by 1/100th of a second!

It's a shame Charlotte Bankes did not produce the same form in the individual as she was by far the best female in the team event.

Kirsty Muir is in for a good chance of at least a medal tomorrow in the ski big air.

Tbf they missed out on bronze by 0.11 second. The 0.01 was between the German silver and bronze. But clearly still rather close.  Great run by Freya and like Charlotte in the snowboard cross she may think her individual event could have produced more ( and Charlotte still comes away with a gold ) though that needed to be done over 4 runs.
