Eliana/Angelica Blake has taken the first set easily enough

Here's a little interview she did a year or so back - it may well have been posted before but just to be topical

If she can keep fit and playing regularly, she is capable of moving close to top 500

Lovely - two of our players to join Hannah in the main draw

There's a Q v Q slot in the main draw too - although also Q slots against the top seed, the 3rd seed etc

So, once again, Hannah is drawn against the 2nd seed in the first round

However, it worked out well in Grenoble, so why not here?

R1: (2) Alisa Oktiabreva (***) WR 286 (age 17, CH 17) v Hannah Klugman (GBR) WR 590

Alisa, as is not uncommon for the Russian players, basically dropped out of juniors when only 15 or 16 and has been plying her craft in adults

I remember that Hannah did beat her though on her way to the Orange Bowl title, I think it was

Hannah has lost the first set, 2-6

Truly awful first set - not just by Hannah - just horrible tennis all round

Hannah saying to her camp 'I'm so tired, why are we here?' or words to that effect

But either shake hands and go home or make an effort - she looks like a teenageer who's been dragged out to have tea with her great aunt and has a face on

Alisia, as expected, is hardly doing anything on the court - landing a reasonable number of first serves but that's all that can be said in her favour

Hannah won the second set, 6-1

Alisa continued to play some pretty uninspiring tennis - and threw in a few DFs at bad moments

Hannah still didn't look that keen but decided to at least land some first serves - which is key for her

First serve % set 1 : 41%

First serve % set 3: 73 %

For anyone who likes tennis, do NOT watch the 'highlights' of this match - you won't find any

Hannah can now go and celebrate her birthday, without having to worry about pesky tennis - she clearly didn't really want to be there - it was just sluggish and third-gear (with some awful DFs thrown in)

However, there were a few rare glimpses of quality and, given the whole run of events, it hasn't been too bad

Angelica should win that match.

 Maybe

Aikawa looked OK in Manchester and Birmingham - bit less so in Sheffield

It's certainly a decent draw for Angelica

Doesn't sound like you enjoyed this very much!  Did you have 20p on her opponent to soften the blow?

Had to think for a moment who you were talking about - then my brain woke up.
