Hermione K Davies lost in R1. As did Daphne Lovdahl.
In the boys, Kasra Shirazi and Casey Drake both won a match and then lost in R2
J60 Luxembourg
A great run so far by Harrison Mcelnea who won in R1 and then beat the top seed, and is now into the QFs
Sam Hostiuc lost in R1
J30 Portugal
Murray Watters is into R3
Matt Kiernan lost his first match, as did John Carney
J30 Estonia
Matilda Burns, (q) Annabel Fletcher (age 14) and Isabella Barratt-Campbell (age 14) all won two matches and lost in the QFs (in very close matches, for Matilda and Isabella, who'd already beaten the 2nd seed)
Matilda is into the semis in doubles
J60 Norway
Leo Wright and Casey Unitt both won in R1 and have their R2 matches tomorrow
Same for Alice Haddad and Elizabeth Prangley (who beat the 3rd seed)
In terms of important 'other' events, the Super Auray is taking place this week
One of the world's top 12U events, we're up to the QF stage now
And GB has two players left it
In the girls, Sahara Baptiste is through, playing her very rushed, rather higgledy-piggledy tennis - but with a LOT of talent, a lot of strings to her bow and, as said before plenty of time, a very promising prospect (although it's not quite 'in place' yet)
In the boys, Philip Neuez is also through to the QFs
Philip is a completely new name to me - am off to do some digging (although if Rose is on the case, that would be great )
To note, Victoria Florea lost in the last 16, but against the clear top seed, Mila Berta, and with a very respectable score. Isal Skeates lost in the last 32, in a third-set TB. Young Nolwaine Ngassam came through qualis but lost to quite a strong French girl in her first match. Louis Taylor also lost in R of the boys
A super, super polished performance from young Philip Neuez
A lot of skill, and great timing, but also a LOT of composure ..... there must have been 150-200 people in the crowd (the French are excellent at coming out to support their tennis, even when there's no local player)
And they were loud, with a lot of support for the young Brazilian boy. Which then got the GB supporters worked up too.
But Philip kept his cool when all around were losing theirs (and the Brazilian was definitely close to losing his cool)
Kept his focus, came forwards, made his smashes, picked up the ball on the rise beautifully, had some decent serving stats, and really just imposed himself, in a very close match
Philip won, 6-3 6-4
Sahara, on the other hand, was still all higgledy-piggledy. In a bit too much of a rush. A bit confused about what her schemas of play should be. But still playing some exciting tennis.
However, she was playing a young Czech girl who is very well-known for having an ambitious (overly-ambitious?) father who used to be a pro ice-hockey guy and who focuses hugely on gym and fitness - he's had his daughter doing major weight-training in the gym ever since she was a tiddler - and posting videos etc about it
Certainly the Czech girl was more mature on the court, fitness or no. And she was just too consistent for Sahara.

philips a Middlesex player and an LTA favourite. Has represented GB on more than one occasion and has had a lot of success already at national tournaments. Quite small for his age but plays a very mature game. Likes his forehand, will often run around it and places ball really well. Not afraid to come in to the net. Not a flashy player but very solid. Always looks like he has time on the ball
Yes, that ties in very much with what I saw - his composure, and variety, were very impressive
He lost easily today although the first set was close (closer, really, than the 6-3 indicates). Playing a far taller Italian boy with a one-handed backhand. Philip did, however, lose his belief a bit in the second, which was a shame as - as said - the first set was tighter than the score shows
Interesting info re Philip and sounds promising. In another Tennis Europe event although 14U instead, Tomas Gabor has reached the final in Slovakia category 2. He has knocked out the 2nd and 3rd seeds along the way and plays a local WC in the final. Tomas has made a good start to 14U tennis! backed up by a good performance in Tarbes earlier.
