Race for the Wimbledon wildcards 2026

Very exciting that Ollie Bonding has just flown in, no grass prep, and really aced it

Only 18 still

Which means we have two teenagers / three under 21s in qualis

Hope they all like hot and sunny conditions!!!!

I am the biggest Dan fan and was absolutely outraged when he didnt get a wildcard. Yesterday I went to the Liverpool International tennis tournament exhibition to get a last watch of Evo, and I now wonder whether LTA/Wimbledon have some minimum fitness/training requirements that Dan hasnt met? He looked out of shape and I know its only an exhibition but he lost easily to Herman Hoeyeraal who is ranked about 900 I think Dan didn't look match fit at all. I would probably have still given him a WC for his service but after yesterday it makes me think it was a difficult decision. Liam Broady was in fine fettle and beat Ivanov quite handily and plays Evo today.

Just to clarify when the original qualifying wc were announced there were 2 for the wc playoff and the spare two have come from Jay Clarke and Oliver Crawford now getting in directly?

Wonder if one of those last double wc spots might go to Mark and James especially if they win Dublin Challenger

As Madman has suggested above Mark and Jim should get one of the remaining doubles WC slots. Hopefully a win will secure it and baring in mind their rankings they have already done enough for me.

I have no issue with Evo not getting a WC, he has never done anything at Wimbledon and has let a lot of people down over the years and has already had enough WC's. Probably more relevant here and now is that he has been a part time player for a while, I know he has had injuries(?) but is clearly not fit. Unlike a few years ago we have a hatful of players who are deserving of a WC so it's time to move on folks.
I wish Dan the Man well and hope he comes through qualifiers, but if he get's there a five setter in the final round might be his undoing.

Have to disagree Mark. I was reading some international press on Wimbledon WCs MD and there is a lot of angst about those big names that have been overlooked for players they have never heard of. I still think Dan should have one for services to GBR and Davis Cup. He would lose in the first round but a vast majority of the youngsters will be flattened in the first round. We have a lot of men qualifying but apart from Jack no one world class, with Cam still recovering from injury And potentially Jack doubtful. On the womens side, hopes obviously with Emma to reach the second week and possibly Katie, but thats it so far. Everyone to their own thoughts though. Respect your views.

Var, why should the AELTC care about the international press when they make very healthy profits regardless?

And there are always complaints about big names overlooked for home names

That's what journalists do

No need to kowtow to them

Had anybody apart from the diehard, and his mum, heard of Clément Tabur?

Or Eliot Spizziri ?

Or a lot of other players who've received main draw Grand Slam wildcards in the past year or so?

Whilst I agree that many are not happy with Dan's omission what you are reading in the World's press which we all read by the way, is irrelevant and often ill informed.  When you talk about players 'people have never heard of', that comment alone says it all in that the comments you are reading are being made by people who know nothing about tennis and clearly only watch for two weeks a year as the majority of people do.  The players that have been given WC's are mostly established and successful on the challenger tour and have been familiar names on here amongst real tennis fans for years. Your comment about players being flattened in the first round is just a derogatory remark to prove your point, you wait and see most will not be flattened.  As for being flattened have you seen any of Dan's results this year?  You have tripped yourself up there.
Also where do you draw the line at world class?  Your support of Dan for a WC implies that he is world class, but look at his results.   World class is a vague term and is totally irrelevant, on the other hand in a world of 8 billion people I would say a player ranked 1000 in the world is absolutely world class.
