RE: Week 10 - ATP Challenger 50 - Hersonissos, Crete (Greece) (hard)

L16:  Paul Jubb WR 310 beat (7) Harry Wendelken WR 277 by 6-1 6-2

Emphatic scoreline. Though Harry did have BPs in all 4 of Paul's service games in the second set, converting just 1/9.

Just to carry over my comment from the previous page, I suspect that Harry ran out of gas. Played a lot of matches in the last couple of weeks, and watching the end of his match with Giles yesterday, he looked absolutely beaten sitting down afterwards, and I wondered if he might run out of steam today. Believe he's now heading for the big Asian hard court swing in a couple of weeks.

Good to see Paul winning matches at this level again - would be great to see him go on and make the final

For now Paul is up to live ranked 292 with nothing to drop until 18/05.

Even without further wins here he will very probably hold on for top 300 in next Monday's rankings, which would give us 19 in the top 300, more than twice the 9 in the top 300 of a year ago.

As Sheddie says though, it would be great to see Paul add more wins here.

Agreed - I have always had a soft spot for Paul, partly his back story, partly his college exploits, partly seeing him at Ilkley a couple of times. His game always feels very precise and neat to me, but lightweight compared to some of the guys out there and that, plus injuries, may hold him back

Should be top 200 though and higher, so hope he can have two months now of gaining some places in those rankings. I seem to recall he likes clay, had a good LATAM circuit a couple of years back - hope a fit Paul can do something similar this season

I think a bit of break will do Harry the world of good in the long run - although he still has doubles to play. Hopefully a good few days off before he heads out to Asia refreshed and confident.

Toby takes the first set 6-3.  The serve is absolutely not dominant here - there have been loads of BPs.  Toby is comfortably ahead in terms of total points won.  He should be a comfortable winner.
