I might still have some farthings and halfpennies. My father had a half sovereign and a little balance device, used to check that the coins were genuine gold.
You can't help thinking that Mimi and Hannah will both get a MD wildcard, no matter what, just to save the LTA a bob or two
a bob, is an old shilling, 12 old pennies (12d)
two bob, is two shillings, 24 pennies (24d) - or - a single florin (now equiv to 10p piece)
10 bob, a half pound note
20 bob, a pound note.
6 old pennies (or a single tanner) used to be enough to buy a Mars bar (bigger than today's version), early 1960's
... not tennis, but couldn't resist
I have never heard anyone use the expression 20 Bob ..
But a ten bob note was what we called it, never heard of the expression a half pound note ..
Then again, there was the Guinea, a pound and a shilling ..
Our Mum (like everybody others' Mum) used to put tanners and threepenny bits into the Christmas Cake
Likewise. I recall the ten bob notes though. When I was learning to swim my grandmother always gave me 1 old penny each time I went which I would spend on a Sherbert Fountain in the sweet shop next to the swimming baths.
She also used to put a 1920s silver sixpence in the Christmas pudding.
Old coinage was a pain in the neck really but somehow more fun to use. I recall the half crown too. This was worth two and six (ie two shillings and sixpence) and My father making us walk down the promenade at Weston Super Mare to find a knickerbocker glory cheaper that half a crown which he refused to pay!

The LTA name Mika, Mimi, Hannah, Alicia and Katie S as ones to watch in the grass court season... no surprises there, but clearly an indication of wild cards incoming...

Where is Mika actually playing as I have not seen her name on any entry lists so far?

Mika will get in with WCs, she's not ranked high enough to get in directly. I would expect her to get WCs to Queens and at least 2 of Birmingham, Nottingham and Eastbourne.
It pains me to say it cause I really like her as a player, but Jasmine Paolini is surely doubtful with a foot injury at Roland Garros, she also said in her press interview hasnt been good for a while, and pulled out of doubles with errani!
Hayley Baptiste is out for the season so Fran moves one closer to main draw. I think she is now one away.
i wonder if Paolini will give grass a miss.

Sonay to miss the grass court season as well, sad for Karts but another player might benefit if Fran makes the MD before wildcards are due to be announced.
