Final: (2) Joshua Charlton (AUS) & Ben Jones CR 422 (238+184) defeated Buvaysar Gadamauri (BEL) & Giles Hussey CR 789 (366+423) by 6-4 6-2
Yay, a second challenger doubles title for 27 yo Ben ( the first was a Georgia Challenger 50 title with Charles Broom in 2024 ). He will be up to a new CH on Monday, currently showing as live 171.
Yes, Harry broke to serve for the set at *5-3, was broken, but broke again to take the set. He is a break down in the second set but hopefully he can find his breaking prowess again.
Sadly lost his second final in a row. Great effort nonetheless. I believe Liam said he was unfortunately ill last week, which explains his mini collapse from a set up. I watched the last 2 sets today and I felt Harry was increasingly passive - trying not to lose and keeping his balls very central and well within the court, whereas Kotov was trying to win - so it was increasingly on Kotovs racket. He deserved it. A great 2 weeks nonetheless and lots to learn for the next time
Pity. Still another very good week and Harry live ranked 222 on 253 points which, as Sheddie said earlier, should be enough to get into French Open qualifying,
Also probably already Wimbledon Q since he now has no counters to drop before the relevant 25/05 rankings date for the Wimbledon Q list. The more we can have as direct entries the better since there will be a queue looking for WCs.
I see half a dozen already very strong looking claims for GB Wimbledon MD WCs ( Jake Jan, JPJ, Billy, Arthur, Toby ). But there might be room for one or two more, so no harm in trying to keep on winning, rising up the rankings, and see where that might get him.
