Week 15 - WTA 250 - Rouen, France (clay)

Incidentally, this was Katie's first ever win at 250 level on clay i believe.

She only has 2 other career wins above the 125 level and if she wins today it would be her first successive clay wins above 125.

Almost, two wins at Roland Garros - one in qualifying and one first round against a qualifier. But she won a first round match at Madrid last year, beating Siniakova.

And of course she won five matches at the Paris WTA125 in taking the title last year.

Boulter was 1-4 break point down. Then served for it at 6-5.

Was 6-1 up in tiebreaker finally taking it 7-5

Broken in the second 0-2. Another battle this set?

That was the crucial break. Christian took her only break point, Katie didn't manage to take any of her 7.
4-6 and into the decider.

Great and unexpected result! Must be her highest ranked win on clay?

Got to say, Katie's clay game has come on leaps and bounds since hooking up with Alex

Could well be - previous best clay I could find was 44 Clara Burel in 2024

Well played Katie. You could almost see her telling herself, take your time, be patient! Say she finds it difficult to work the points on clay, but Michael has definitely helped a lot. Looks like a different player from last year. Well done KB!
