Blessing in disguise for Liam I think - needs some R&R before hitting French Qs seemingly without a clay warm up

Pity. Still should be a new doubles CH for Ben. Showing as live ranked 166 as against his CH 171.

Sheddie, I absolutely agree that this week has been totally krap for our boys at Challenger level.  I was looking forward to watching some tennis this week.

I don't think Liam will be going to RG with high expectatio0ns. I know that he will give it his absolute all, but his last win at Challenger level on the dirt was in Belgrade exactly 5 years ago. Having only earned $30k in prize money so far this year, he has probablt made a net financial loss so far this year and can't turn down the generous 24k Euros for showing his face in the City of Light.

We haven't had a "+H" Challenger for several years, not to my knowledge anyway.  Does anyone know the reasoning for their demise?

I believe all are inclusive of hospitality nowadays:

  • Mandatory Hospitality: As of 2019, all Challenger tournaments must provide full hospitality (usually free hotel accommodation) for main draw participants.
  • Scope: This typically includes shared or single hotel rooms for players from the night before the main draw starts through the night after they are eliminated.
  • Not All-Inclusive: While accommodation is provided, "hospitality" does not always mean all meals are covered for free, although they are often subsidized.
  • Stringing Services: Some challenger events may not provide professional stringing services.

Yes that was gonna be my hunch! Even more of an incentive for players to make the transition from ITFs up to challengers.

Liam will definitely be in Paris for RG qualies - that big payday will be absolutely vital to funding the next few months. I also imagine that he's going to play as much as he possibly can in the next few weeks - if he breaks top 200 then that likely means a precious Wimbledon WC will be guaranteed and having made the third round twice at SW19, getting into the Wimby main draw is probably crucial to his hopes of progressing back towards top 100.
