Thanks all! Kids had a fab time. Eldest has been crewing for 3 years but it was a first event for the youngest who can't wait until next week. Which is a win for me... gives me an excuse to go and watch!

Super
I had one youngster who was very serious, happy to ballcrew, actually turned into a very competent umpire, got all their qualifications etc
And one youngster who just messed about something chronic - not cut out for ballcrew, nor umpiring, nor quite a lot of other things that involve rigour and routine actually - but a very nifty tennis player
Sounds like similar temperaments to my two. I was worried about messing about but he held it together. Who knows where tennis might take them in future but it is a fantastic experience to see high level support close up

Yes. As you say, a real experience. Interesting for them to see the sport close to. But also demands self-control, discipline, attention to detail etc
And, it's not the most important thing, but my one who did umpiring once went for quite a swanky job - lots of applicants - and it just so happens that the interviewer really latched on to the umpiring record, wanted to know all about it, could see all the crossover skills - and they got the job
