Weeks 18 & 19 - WTA1000 - Internazionali BNL d'Italia - Rome, Italy (clay)

There are only 5 weeks to the grass court season, 4 if you count the 125 in Birmingham. Emma will not be seeded for Paris and it must be quite possible she won't play there. This post viral issue is really dragging on now. There must be doubts as to whether she can be fit for the grass court season and will almost certainly be unseeded at Wimbledon if she is even fit to play.
After an encouraging year last year this is starting to look like yet another season largely written off.

Feel for her. She hasn't had much luck really injury/illness wise since winning the US Open.

Looks like there may be some hope for Roland Garros - Emma apparently hoping for a WC into Strasbourg in two weeks time

Katie was broken to lose the first set from *40-0 up.

4-6 *0-3

Missed a couple of break points there. Just not quite good enough today.

Gets the set 6-3. She was losing all the half-battles for a set and a half and was just not quite there as I said, but started to get a couple of the close games over the line and got a bit of momentum going. Not a bad contest this.

Grinds out what could prove to be an important hold for 1-2* as play stops.

The doubles were supposed to start tomorrow (Friday 08/05), but the draw doesn't appear on either the WTA or the tournament websites. Tennisforum is reporting that the draw will be made on Friday for a Saturday start.

L32:- Ellen Perez (AUS) / Demi Schuurs (NED) CR43 (19+24) [8] v Tereza Mihalikova / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR58 (29+29)

Avoided the big guns at least, but tough draw as to be expected.
