Harriet has Bartoli all to herself now.

Harriet struggling as everyone probably expected against a proper clay courter.

A decent enough effort from Harriet

It was always going to be difficult

But she didn't go away - she made her opponent earn the win

6-1 6-4

Yeah I think that's a decent effort. She's got doubles here with Panova and then grass time.

Emma would have Paolini in round 2
Katie would have Potapova
Fran would have Bouzkova

Fran has the best draw IMO. Haddad Maia in awful form, and Bouzkova as a potential round 2 not bad. Can see Sierra beating Emma (she made 4th round in Madrid and 3rd in Rome). Potapova is one of the big clay form players of the year, like top 4-8 for the season.... so that will be rough.

Apparently its the 50th anniversary of sue Barker being the last ever French Open winner for GB.

The engraver made a mistake and put her down as Australian on the trophy and its not clear if the error has ever been corrected!

I don't know anything about Katie's opponent but on ranking katie ought to have a decent shot.

Fran has basically drawn a walking bye. Maia barely won anything this year at all.

Emma has a poor draw though. I think it likely she will struggle to get more than 4 or 5 games let alone a set. Sierra really isn't the type of player you would want in the first round of a major when you've played two sets of tennis in 3 months on your worst surface and your opponent's best.

On paper it looks a favourable draw for Fran but after that terrible result in Rabat I wouldn't count my chickens...
